Next up is Broward.
The area lost a few of the best players in the state, starting with 2021 Wesley Cardet Jr Wesley Cardet Jr 6'5" | SG West Oaks | 2021 State #117 Nation FL . However, the cupboard is far from depleted. This county is deep and full of name brand programs.
Let’s jump into my picks…
Ben Middlebrooks – Westminster Academy
When looking for versatility, look no further than Ben Middlebrooks. The 6-foot-10 power forward has the prototypical mix of size and speed. Middlebrooks can score around the low block or beat you with his ball handling in the half court. As a sophomore, the D-1 prospect averaged 17.8 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Middlebrooks recently picked up an offer from Dayton, adding to the long list of high majors vying for his commitment. A highly skilled stretch four.
Gregg Glenn Gregg Glenn 6'7" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #161 Nation FL – Calvary Christian
Expectations should be high over at Calvary Christian with the Eagles playing a competitive national schedule. Therefore, 6-foot-6 forward Gregg Glenn Gregg Glenn 6'7" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #161 Nation FL needs to take advantage. I felt Glenn played steady last season, but has much more to show in his game. I want to see Glenn takeover games and display why he is one of the best prospects in the state of Florida. His motivation should be high after a tough game against Sante Fe Catholic. Glenn scored just six points in the state playoff loss. As a junior, the D-1 prospect averaged 14.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Glenn has recently been offered by Maryland, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, LSU and Arkansas.
Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL – Calvary Christian
The Eagles arguably got the prize of all transfers with Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL joining the club. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard averaged 18.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Wellington last season. Allen can create space on his shot with his quick footwork and has an explosive vertical when he rises at the rim. I also love his change of pace ability off his dribble drives and aggressiveness attacking the basket. In addition, Allen has exceptional vision in transition. This should be on full display with 2022 Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL running the floor in transition. The sophomore sensation recently picked up offers from Virginia Tech and LSU. Allen and 2023 Carl Cherenfant Carl Cherenfant 6'4" | CG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #68 Nation FL should be dual threat generals on the floor for Calvary Christian.
Amen Thompson – Pine Crest
Pine Crest will be an exciting team to watch this season coming of a 20-win campaign. The Panthers are highlighted by a pair of brothers, starting with 6-foot-6 combo guard Amen Thompson. Thompson averaged 16.9 points per game while leading the club in rebounds (7.3), assists (3.7), steals (2.9) and blocks (1.4). Offensively, Thompson can get to his spot on the floor and knock down steady jump shots. Due to his length, Thompson is very hard to defend once gets to his apex on his shooting motion. Moreover, those natural gifts make him an equally tough defender. Opponents are going to rack up turnovers and be denied shots thanks to his size. He currently holds offers form schools such as Alabama, Iowa State, Florida, Florida State and Arizona.
Ausar Thompson – Pine Crest
Putting two of the best players on one team is deadly for any program. In this case, they just happen to be brothers. 6-foot-6 Ausar Thompson led Pine Crest after averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game. Moreover, Thompson finished second behind his twin in assists, rebounds and steals. You cannot undersell the pressure the pair can put on the ball with their length and athleticism. That alone can disrupt the motion of an offense as it prepares to execute its set. Thompson holds similar D-1 offers, including Kansas, LSU and Oklahoma State.
