An Early Look at Trinity Academy Raleigh
Trinity Academy Raleigh granted PrepHoopsNC early access to their intra-squad scrimmage and they had a ton of prospects on display. The returning players from last year’s 23-5 squad looked better than ever heading into a new season. Tyler Gill Tyler Gill 6'0" | PG Trinity Academy (Raleigh) | 2021 State NC (Towson commit) was looking a whole lot leaner and in turn, quicker off the bounce on the floor. 2022 wing Noah Ross Noah Ross 6'6" | SG Trinity Academy (Raleigh) | 2022 State NC is a much more vocal leader and aggressive with the ball in his hands on all three levels. Kevon Vanderhorst Kevon Vanderhorst 6'1" | PG Trinity Academy (Raleigh) | 2023 State NC (2023), Sam Perez Sam Perez 6'7" | PF Trinity Academy (Raleigh) | 2022 State NC (2022), Tim Robinson (2022) and 2022 forward Trey Barker are a few of the new names to know for a team that should be the deepest yet.
Vanderhorst is an emerging point guard that’s fun to watch given his ability to compete on both ends. He’s already drawn DI interest from the likes of Belmont and others. Perez is a new addition from Middle Creek High where he put up solid production on the wing and should do the same and then some for the Tigers. Robinson is a 6-foot-5 forward that runs the floor well for easy buckets and has rim-protection potential. Not playing due to injury were 2023 Wing/Forward Jakwon Moore Jakwon Moore 6'5" | SF New Life Christian | 2023 State NC and 2022 Guard Zach Sloan.
Top Shelf Showcase Brings out Top Talent
Moravian Prep’s National squad was on display san Corneilous Williams Corneilous Williams 6'10" | C Combine Academy | 2022 State NC this past Wednesday in a TopShelf Showcase game against the Triad Blue Chip Select squad that featured Jamarii Thomas Jamarii Thomas 6'1" | PG The Burlington School | 2021 State NC , Kuluel Mading Kuluel Mading 6'10" | C The Burlington School | 2021 State NC , Kadyn Dawkins Kadyn Dawkins 5'9" | CG Eastern Guilford | 2021 State NC , Jamarien Dalton Jamarien Dalton 6'2" | CG North Davidson | 2021 State NC , Shad Thomas Shad Thomas 6'6" | SF Salem Baptist Christian | 2021 State NC and some other top prospects from the Triad Area. Moravian Prep was led by BJ Freeman BJ Freeman 6'6" | SF Moravian Prep | 2021 State NC , 2022 point guard Camian Shell Camian Shell 5'10" | PG Winston-Salem Christian | 2022 State NC , 2022 forward Anthony Sellars Anthony Sellars 6'7" | SF Quality Education Academy | 2022 State NC , 2025 guard Eli Ellis Eli Ellis 6'1" | CG Moravian Prep | 2025 GA , 2021 guard Cedric Patterson Cedric Patterson 6'0" | PG Bull City Prep | 2022 State NC though they came up short in the end 119-124.
Ellis posted 30 points while shoot 7-of-11 from 3-point range, Freeman finished with 26 points, showing off his ability to get to the paint and finish in traffic. Shell finished with 19 points, showing off his ability to run the show at the point guard spot. Sellars finished with 14 points while playing mainly in the post with Williams absent. Patterson finished with nine points, showing off his stroke from the perimeter.
The Triad Area has some unsigned talent!
The Triad Select squad was led by a strong performance from Jamarii Thomas Jamarii Thomas 6'1" | PG The Burlington School | 2021 State NC against Moravin Prep. Thomas posted 38 points in the game with 29 of those points coming in the second half. He’s a prospect that continues to show his winning mentality while giving fans a preview of what to expect alongside Kuluel Mading Kuluel Mading 6'10" | C The Burlington School | 2021 State NC at The Burlington School. Mading, who was also featured alongside Thomas, finished with 26 points in the game, knocking down three 3-pointers and showing off his ability to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim.
Kadyn Dawkins Kadyn Dawkins 5'9" | CG Eastern Guilford | 2021 State NC knocked down four 3-pointers including a timely 3-pointer with a minute left to put the Triad Select squad up by seven. He finished with 19 points in the game, showing off his continued development on the floor as a combo guard. Shad Thomas Shad Thomas 6'6" | SF Salem Baptist Christian | 2021 State NC and K.J. Garrett K.J. Garrett 5'11" | CG High Point Christian | 2021 State NC were two other top names to know. Thomas showed off his ability to stretch the floor and attack the rim with 12 points. Garrett showed off his quick first step with eight points. There’s a ton of unsigned senior prospects for colleges to keep an eye on, that’s for sure!
