Boyden-Hull (24-3):
Reigning 2A State Champions are looking to repeat their dominance of the tradition-rich conference. The comets graduated 58% of their 62.4 points per game. Boyden-Hull will be reloading with a strong group of underclassmen that return Co-Preseason Player of the Year Tanner Te Slaa Tanner Te Slaa 6'5" | SF Boyden-Hull | 2022 State IA (17.2 PPG 5.3 RPG) and Marcus Kelderman Marcus Kelderman 6'1" | SG Boyden-Hull | 2021 State IA (11.6 PPG and 3.5 RPG).
Central Lyon (10-12):
The Lions have a lot of young talent coming back from last year’s squad, only graduating 37% of their total scoring 61 PPG. Sophomore phenom Zach Lutmer Zach Lutmer 6'1" | PG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA (15.7 PPG 5.6 RPG) looks to continue his breakout season from his freshman year with Mason Gerleman Mason Gerleman 6'0" | SG Central Lyon | 2022 State IA (11.9 PPG 2.0 RPG).
George-Little Rock (12-12):
George-Little Rock finished middle of the pack in the Siouxland Conference. They graduated 70% of their scoring from the 2019-2020 season, underclassmen will need to step up and fill the void left by last year’s seniors. Look for Ben Anderson (6.8 PPG and 2.3 RPG) and Mason Post (4.9 PPG 1.6 RPG) to lead the Mustangs this season.
MOC-Floyd Valley (19-4):
2019-2020 Siouxland Conference Champions are looking to continue their dominance of the Siouxland into the 2020-2021 season. The biggest question for the returning champs is who will fill the void from graduation and losing 80% of last year’s scoring. Coach DeJong has a tradition-rich program that always reloads.
Okoboji (14-10):
Okoboji finished fifth last season in one of the strongest conferences in the State. Okoboji has one of the most lethal scorers in the conference with Co-Preseason Player of the Year Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA , who just recently picked up an offer from Wayne State College. Lucas led the conference in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double for the season (22.5 PPG and 12.0 RPG). Okoboji will be a tough team to deal with this upcoming season in Siouxland.
Rock Valley (15-8):
Rock Valley finished third in the conference last year and return a majority of their scoring. Look for these three players to lead the charge for the Rockets this upcoming season, Alex Godfredsen (13.5 PPG 5.3 RPG), Bryson Van Grootheest Bryson Van Grootheest 6'0" | CG Rock Valley | 2022 State IA (11.8 PPG 3.1 RPG), Sam Remmerde Sam Remmerde 6'3" | PF Rock Valley | 2022 State IA (9.4 PPG 6.0 RPG). The future in Rock Valley looks bright, of their six losses last year four of those losses were determined by two possessions or less including one to MOC-FV.
Sheldon (7-16):
Sheldon was 5-13 in their conference schedule last season. The Orabs didn’t shoot very well from the field and gave up a higher percentage on defense than on offense. Tye Sudbeck Tye Sudbeck 5'11" | SG Sheldon | 2021 State IA (13.2 PPG 2.9 RPG) and Kaleb Ackerman (11.3 PPG 1.8 RPG) look to lead the Orabs into the upcoming season.
Sibley-Ocheyedan (1-21):
Sibley-Ocheyedan went 0-18 last season in the conference. It was a tough season for the generals, for them to improve they will need to value the possession of the basketball better than 18.2 turnovers per game. A bright spot for the generals was Carter Brouwer (13.2 PPG 5.5 RPG) last season.
Sioux Center (8-15):
Eli Hibma Eli Hibma 6'3" | SF Sioux Center | 2021 State IA (13.6 PPG 4.4 RPG) and Christian Vietor Christian Vietor 6'1" | SG Sioux Center | 2022 State IA (10.6 PPG and 2.7 RPG) are looking to help lead the Warriors improvement into the 2020-2021 season. Sioux Center’s record is not indictive of the type of team playing, due to six of their losses being under two possessions deciding the final outcome.
West Lyon (14-11):
West Lyon brings back two returning starters from last season Jaxon Meyer Jaxon Meyer 6'4" | PF West Lyon | 2022 State IA (11.7 PPG 7.0 RPG) and Zach Van Beek (5.4 PPG 2.4 RPG). The wildcats will need to have players fill the void of graduated seniors that was 55% of their total scoring. West Lyon has a number of underclassmen with varsity experience last season which will help this winter.
Projected Order of Finish
1. Boyden-Hull
2. Rock Valley
3. Okoboji
4. Central Lyon
5. West Lyon
6. MOC-FV
7. George Little-Rock
8. Sioux Center
9. Sheldon
10. Sibley-Ocheyedan
Analysis:
Boyden-Hull and MOC-Floyd Valley split their games during the 2019-2020 season, but Rock Valley was nipping on these team’s heels all season long. With Boyden-Hull and the Rockets returning a lot of players and scoring are pushing them to the front of the race for Conference Champion.
Co-Preseason Player of the Year
Limiting to just one player in the Siouxland is difficult especially with these two players battling it out every night. They definitely put up some impressive numbers last season. It will be a great winter season to watch these two players lace up the shoes and lead their respective teams to a possible conference championship and maybe a trip to Wells.
