Continue ReadingThe Commonwealth Basketball Group held their first session of their Fall Series at Guardian Christian Academy in Chesterfield, VA. The goal of the event was to get kids back in the gym in a grassroots setting, and provide a live steam to college coaches to be able to evaluate the talent in a structured environment.
The event had 12 teams and was loaded with talent, so doing the standouts in just one article simply isn’t possible. Here’s a look at part two of the 2022 standouts, featuring six guys to keep an eye on.
Davin Cosby Jr Davin Cosby Jr 6'5" | CG Word of God | 2023 #111 Nation NC | 6’4” WG | VA Havoc 2022
Cosby is a guy I fully believe will have a breakout year at Benedictine this year after showing flashes in the sixth man role last year. On Sunday, he showed his ability to score it in bunches as he was one of the best and most consistent shooters in the event, but he also showed that he’s improved as far as his athleticism and ability to create off the bounce. He’s sprouted to 6’4” and showed a lot of his 16.5 points and 4 rebounds per game in their two games.
Anthony Fisher Anthony Fisher 6'0" | PG Benedictine | 2022 State VA | 5’10” PG | VA Havoc 2022
Fisher was impressive for Havoc as he came in relatively unknown but with his toughness on both ends showed he’s one of the more underrated guys in the Richmond area. He has that dog in him as he makes life a nightmare for opposing ball handlers, and offensively he’s able to get in the lane and make shots from multiple levels. In their win over Peninsula Catholic, he finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Roman Barshow | 6’7” F | Highland School 2022
Barshow is a new name in the NOVA area to keep an eye out for, as he showed flashes of big time potential moving forward. A forward with good size and bounce, Barshow will surprise you with how athletic he is and he has some versatility and skill to his game that could make him a scholarship prospect down the road. He’s someone I’m very interested to continue to watch develop over time.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'3" | SG Peninsula Catholic | 2022 VA | 6’4” WG | Peninsula Catholic 2022
Brown didn’t have the best shooting day in session one, but he showed the base skill set and athleticism that makes him an interesting prospect now that he’s reclassified to the 2022 class. The 6’4” wing is a two way impact guy who plays with a high motor, can play on and off the basketball and is a good athlete which allows him to make plays on both ends. He plays the game fearlessly, and will make the hustle plays and even challenge much bigger guys at the rim.
Cooper Keyes | 5’10” G | VA Blaze 2022
Keyes is a guy I expect to make a much bigger impact this year than he did last year as he’s playing a more important role and is showing more confidence in his game as well. Son of East Rockingham Head Coach Carey Keyes, Cooper showed the ability to make plays for others, handle it against pressure and he shot the ball well from deep when they doubled off of him. He picked his spots and was productive throughout the day, and he should get better and better with more time.
Amari Baylor | 6’4” F | CBG East 2022
Baylor is the type of player you can’t help but like because despite the fact he’s undersized in the post he always finds a way to be productive in some way. He’s a very strong and high motor kid who uses his motor to out rebound bigger guys, score in the paint against bigger guys and make plays on both ends of the floor. He’s the type of player you love to have on your team and hate to play against.
