2022 Rankings Update: #11-30 More Breakout Players

As I wrote about my potential breakout players ranked from #11-30, I couldn’t help but feel that I was missing significant players from that range of players. So this is my article on 9 other players within that range that deserve some attention as well going into the winter season:

[player_tooltip player_id="682292" first="Carson" last="Toebe"] - Clear Lake High School, CG - #11 Player in Iowa

A major stat sheet stuffer, Toebe effects the game in many different ways on the court. He’s a skilled scorer who can get to the basket with quickness and athleticism, but can also shoot it at a high level. He is good around the basket where he can finish with both hands and has some craftiness to his finishes as well. He has a nice mid-range game where he can bury a pull-up jumper or with some touch on a floater. He’s good going off of ball screens as he is able to come off ready to score or find an open teammate for a shot. I like the way he uses his strength and low center of gravity when he is on the drive to seal off defenders. He’s also very active in passing lanes looking to get out on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id="682264" first="Gabe" last="Burkle"] - Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, Post - #12 Player in Iowa

Another major football player in our rankings is [player_tooltip player_id="682264" first="Gabe" last="Burkle"], but if he wasn’t a good football player, Burkle could find his way on a basketball team at the next level. Burkle stands at about 6’7, 230 lbs. and is obviously a physical specimen in the paint. He has the ability to step out and shoot the 3 ball off the catch. He is good about getting into a position to score and rebound for his team by using his length and frame. Burkle is obviously effective on the defensive end as well where he can block shots and make other shots even tougher to convert for opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id="682291" first="Armonniey" last="Thomas"] - Marshalltown High School, PG - #16 Player in Iowa

[player_tooltip player_id="682291" first="Armonniey" last="Thomas"] burst onto the scene this past season for the Bobcats and will look to build upon it this upcoming season. He’s a quick, athletic guard who likes to push the pace. He’s good in transition and can finish at the rim with either hand. He’s more of a scoring PG, but he is also able to initiate the offense and spread the wealth to his teammates. He’s a capable jump shooter and can shoot it efficiently from the 3 point line, and pull off of one dribble in the mid-range. He’s a good defender and has a knack for poking balls free with length and quickness. The more he plays, the more potential you can see from Thomas’ game.
[caption id="attachment_1019895" align="alignnone" width="300"] Hilmer[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="682273" first="Austin" last="Hilmer"] - North Linn High School, PG - #17 Player in Iowa

A heady point guard, already committed to Upper Iowa, [player_tooltip player_id="682273" first="Austin" last="Hilmer"] is a good all-around basketball player. He sets his teammates up well shown by his 8 assisters per game this past season which would near the top in all classes in the state. He can also put the ball in the bucket by shooting it from the outside or attacking off the dribble. He uses nice ball fakes when he’s in the lane and good at finding space to attack into.

[player_tooltip player_id="682286" first="Corey" last="Phillips"] - Ames High School, Forward - #20 Player in Iowa

Phillips is an athletic forward with strong hands and good on the catch. He’s a skillful big who can grab a rebound and make a good outlet pass ahead to try to create a fast break opportunity. He uses his athleticism to block shots at the rim and finish plays on the offensive side. He’s a good rebounder and uses his strength well to get bodies out of the lane to clear the glass. He’s another one who could see his future on the football field, but there’s no downplaying his impact for Ames High.

[player_tooltip player_id="682288" first="Jacob" last="Runyan"] - Johnston High School, PG - #21 Player in Iowa

The next lead guard to talk about is Runyan who is a good shooter from the outside or in the mid-range. But most of all he just understands where the ball needs to go to create opportunities for his team. He can attack space when the defense shows zone, or he can penetrate to kick to open shooters. He’s a competitive defender who knows how to get position on his opponent. His passing ability is accurate and puts his team into dangerous spots in the defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="784990" first="Parker" last="Elder"] - Pella High School, Wing - #25 Player in Iowa

An athletic wing who can step out and shoot it as well, Elder is a player on the rise and could a very likely candidate to breakout for the Dutch. He is good off the dribble and can finish above the rim when given the chance. He uses his athleticism to get into passing lanes and out in transition where he’s at his best. He has excelled in the Summer 64 league and this Fall’s Exclusive event showing he can score and contribute in many different ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="784978" first="Dawson" last="Forgy"] - Winterset High School, PG - #26 Player in Iowa

To go along with the theme of good players in this class, the next point guard is [player_tooltip player_id="784978" first="Dawson" last="Forgy"]. He’s explosive towards basket and uses a quick first step to get defenders on his hip and strength to shield them from the ball. He’s a good passer of the ball and puts his teammates in good positions to score the basketball. Forgy can also shoot it off of a ball screen or the catch out to the 3 point line.

[player_tooltip player_id="682275" first="Brayden" last="Kindhart"] - Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, CG - #28 Player in Iowa

A good three level scorer who is at his best in transition, Kindhart shows good shooting motion when pulling the trigger from the perimeter. He likes to get out in transition off of steals and score at the basket with either hands, or dump off to an open teammate for an easy bucket. Kindhart has the kind of quickness that looks effortless when he glides by passed defenders and float acrobatically to finish in the half court offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="784975" first="Corey" last="Miner"] - Mason City High School, PG - #30 Player in Iowa

Miner is a nice PG who knows how to use change of speeds to create scoring opportunities. Just when a defender feels like Miner is done, he can accelerate towards the basket to get to a spot. The lefty can make tough, contested shots on the turnaround. He can knockdown an outside shot off the dribble, ball screen, or off the catch. Miner is just a crafty, smooth operator who’s really opened my eyes more while watching the Fall Exclusive. One I don’t feel like enough people know about.
