Prep Hoops Top250 Expo: Sleeper Guards to Watch

The Prep Hoops Wisconsin Top250 Expo will return on Sunday with many of the state’s top class of 2021 and 2022 prospects in attendance. Here are 10 sleepers college coaches should be aware of going into the event...

[player_tooltip player_id="990740" first="Devon" last="Fielding"] - PG - 2022 - La Crosse Central

Fielding isn’t a prospect that’s on many radars. He’s played on a loaded Red Raider squad and mostly in some lower-tier AAU stuff. That said, he was a very integral part of Central’s success last season, even while playing alongside three Division 1 prospects. A smooth and decisive floor general, Fielding makes others around him better. In big moments when he needed to step up, Fielding didn’t shy away.

Peter Fuchs - SG - 2021 - Wausau West

Fuchs has been getting plenty of NAIA interest this fall. The senior guard is coming off a season in which he averaged 17.1 points per game. A gritty, super confident player with a high motor and plenty of flash, Fuchs can move his way into the rankings after some good outings on the Prep Hoops Circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id="865853" first="Massimo" last="Malterer"] - CG - 2022 - Madison East

Malterer wasn’t a main figure for the Purgolders as a sophomore, but he’s always played well on the AAU circuit. Malterer is a crafty guard who operates really well in traffic. The 6-foot guard handles pressure really well and can get coast-to-coast in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="988705" first="Monte" last="Mayberry"] - SG - 2022 - Northwestern

Player we weren’t able to see during AAU, but liked his junior film, Mayberry shows some good scoring ability. The 6-foot-2 guard appears to be a very strong pull-up jump shooter. A guy who can square up and attack off the wing. He has a very pretty stroke from 3-point range. Mayberry also has some intriguing length and bounce to his game as well.

Chris Mitchell - CG - 2022 - Notre Dame

Two-way player that’s very close to earning a ranking after his summer with Team1848. Mitchell can pressure up the floor for 94 feet. He’s a strong, athletic guard who can attack the rim and score at top end speed in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="865859" first="Emmett" last="Loew"] - SG - 2022 - Pewaukee

Loew finished his summer very strong. The Pewaukee guard can absolutely light it up from 3-point range. Comparable to [player_tooltip player_id="880975" first="Trey" last="Zastrow"], now at UW-Stevens Point, Loew can roam the perimeter, feed off dribble penetration, and will absolutely make defenses pay if they forget about him.

[player_tooltip player_id="1036800" first="Carter" last="Olson"] - PG - 2022 - Cuba City

Olson came on our board late in the summer. The 5-foot-10 guard can absolutely go on the ball. A skilled scorer and facilitator, Olson has takeover ability from the point guard spot.

[player_tooltip player_id="804944" first="Jacquez" last="Overstreet"] - CG - 2021 - Oshkosh West

Having only seen Overstreet in high school ball, interested to see how he holds up in this competitive environment. The 6-foot-3 guard has always played well and been a real unsung hero for the Wildcats while playing next to [player_tooltip player_id="880971" first="Karter" last="Thomas"]. Overstreet has excellent positional size as more of a pure point guard who can play off the ball if needed. He has excellent vision and feel for the game. With Thomas having graduated, Overstreet could be a big stock booster within the state next season.

KJ Williams - PG - 2021 - The Prairie School

A guy that played really well in this last year, Williams definitely turned our heads. While he’s not currently ranked, he’s definitely on our radar. Williams is only about 5-foot-9, but has some dangerous scoring ability on the ball. From what we’ve seen, Williams can get hot in isolation settings by either getting downhill towards the bucket or creating shots off the bounce.
