There was a ton of competition and hard play. Kids were playing together and really listening to our coaches and making sure they made plays in front of the many media members in the gym.
Here is a look at the best overall performers I saw in all of the classes (2021-2024).
Sean Stewart Sean Stewart 6'8" | PF Montverde | 2023 State #11 Nation FL | 6-8 | Windermere
Not the typical 2023 prospect, Stewart was dominant in all three games. He was driving to the rack with power and confidence. He dunks hard, has a ton of length and strength and simply plays the game the right way. He is unselfish and helps everyone around him even in this showcase format. I love Stewart’s upside and tenacity. He was rarely tired and never shied away from any matchup in or out of the paint. The Windermere guard/forward has earned offers from Arizona State, USF, Stetson and Pittsburgh already. His recruitment will skyrocket here soon. He was the best player in the gym regardless of class.
Justin Abson Justin Abson 6'9" | PF North Broward Prep | 2022 State #230 Nation FL | 6-9 | North Broward Prep
Impressive from the jump, you almost forget that Abson still has two years left of high school basketball. Every coach and kid watching him in the gym on Saturday came away oozing over his play inside. Abson has a collective demeanor and can really hurt you by getting to the rack and finishing in a variety of ways. This is a skilled 2022 big who can shoot it and pass with ease. Abson does what you want defensively as a stand up blocker and finds great spots on both ends of the floor. The North Broward Prep forward has tremendous upside and holds offers from Troy and Stetson as of now.
James Henderson James Henderson 6'8" | PF Westminster Christian | 2021 State FL | 6-9 | Westminster Christian
Another big that flourished at the expo was Henderson. Making the trip from Miami, when you look at the 2021 forward you see a beyond strong and energetic player. When he wasn’t in the game, he was coaching his teammates and being vocal on the bench. When he was in the game, he was slamming home dunks, blocking shots and being a powerful presence on offense and defense. Northern Arizona and Hampton have both offered but it is astonishing to me that the Westminster Christian senior hasn’t attracted more college looks. He is a jack of all trades big who is powerful and solid all around.
Jasone Jackson Jasone Jackson 6'3" | SG Sarasota Riverview | 2023 FL | 6-3 | Sarasota Riverview
The jump that Jackson has made from last year to this year is not surprising at all. He was maturing as a point man last season and showed endless promise as a shooter, finisher and overall athlete. Now, he’s faster, stronger and playing with the endless swagger that you love to see from a 2023 prospect. UF and Virginia Tech have both offered but after his performances this summer and specifically at the expo, there is no reason to see a flurry of offers come in for him. Jackson is one of the most gifted athletes you’ll see on a basketball court in any class.
Joshua Blazquez Joshua Blazquez 6'0" | CG Osceola | 2021 State FL | 6-0 | Orlando Christian Prep
Wowing the players in the stands in the final game of the day, Blazquez showed off his hops by dunking home some one-handed slams. Perhaps one of the quickest and skilled point guards in the state, he was tremendous all day long. His speed and ability to get past defenders is impressive. The 2020 guard is always active and can make players better with high IQ passes on drives and cuts. Blazquez is in for a huge year with powerhouse Class 2A program Orlando Christian Prep. (VIDEO)
Camerin James Camerin James 6'5" | CG Leesburg | 2023 State FL | 6-5 | Apopka
Dunking over and over and making tough plays at the rack, James was super enjoyable to watch. He listened to coaches and controlled the tempo and made life fun for everyone around him. James is in for a big season ahead. His jumper is getting better and he really doesn’t have many flaws in his game. James plays with poise and conviction and does plenty to disrupt plays on both ends. Look for the 2023 guard to add offers in due time.
John Gamble John Gamble 6'4" | SG Charlotte | 2023 FL | 6-5 | Charlotte
A high flyer who simply gets up and down the floor in a blink of an eye, Gamble had a successful day at the expo. His ballhandling is maturing, his jumper is getting better and his overall confidence is growing. He’s an impressive 2023 athlete who will get it all going with more training and hard work. He’s one of the best prospects from the Fort Myers/Punta Gorda area. Stetson, Ole Miss and Mississippi Valley State have all earned offers.
Nelson St. Louis Nelson St. Louis 6'3" | CG Port St. Lucie | 2021 State FL | 6-4 | Port St. Lucie
What a day for St. Louis. The emerging guard was electric offensively on Saturday. He’s a strong finisher and someone who likes to get inside. St. Louis holds offers from two NAIA programs William Penn and Brescia. He is going to be a 20 point plus scorer per game at Port St. Lucie during his senior season. St. Louis is one of the most underrated athletes in all of Florida.
Eros Carpio Eros Carpio 6'4" | CG Pine Crest | 2021 State FL | 6-4 | Pine Crest
Right out of the gates, Carpio was fantastic in his opening game. He does everything you want the right way from a high academic guard. Carpio is not little and packs muscle to win one-on-ones whether he gets to the hoop or hits jumpers. All of his coaches on the day constantly told me how impressed they were with his toughness and consistent offensive play. He is a serious factor who will do plenty this season at Pine Crest.
