September 12-13 I attended the All-Academic Basketball Super Bowl. This group goes into many cities in the US and came through to Phoenix at the Phhacility. Over 200 players were participating in this event with, according to the director, there were 188 coaches tuning in and watching online over the weekend.

Here were the last group of senior standouts I viewed:

[player_tooltip player_id="951267" first="Donovan" last="Watkins"] Corona Centennial (CA) (Pictured)

-He is very fast in the open court with incredible quickness and an elite burst into the lane. He has deep 3pt shooting range but somewhat streaky. He made 3 straight in his third game and made two in a row in the last one. He is quick on the ball defensively and he uses his speed on both ends of the court plus is unselfish to make plays for others.

Junior Hodnett CG 6’2 Rio Rancho (NM)

-Hodnett has a pretty jumper from deep. He has range from beyond the NBA line and shoots it easy with a nice arc. He does need to get stronger but he is definitely a better passer than I thought. He will play college ball and light it up for some program.

[player_tooltip player_id="804800" first="Michael" last="Batchelor"] Phhoenix Prep Post Grad

-A 2020 product is post grading to the ‘21 class. He had a nice career at Millennium HS and was in many big games. He is very competitive and he hits shots! He can make the 3 plus is quick enough to get passed his defender and finish off a driving layup.

John Connolly SF 6’6 San Marcos (CA)

-A pure specialist has great size for position. He has a consistent stroke with range. He also is a good passer as he can whip passes full court. He can get a little stronger but is confident and competes on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="951229" first="Donovan" last="Cox"] Linfield Christian (CA)

-One of the more consistent shooters this weekend. He sets up his shot quickly and has a fast trigger. He also made many impressive reads. He is a little thin but fights hard on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="680236" first="Paxton" last="Burzell"] J Serra (CA)

-A lefty face-up 4-man has a nice stroke from mid-range and can extend out to the 3pt line. He moves well and can create his own shot in the post. He is a good passer and plays a smart game. He is sneaky athletic and he boxes out well to rebound the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="951226" first="Dexter" last="Stratton"] Mater Dei (CA)

-A face-up 4-man can shoot it from elbow and in. He is active on the glass and has some decent bounce. He can get a little stronger but runs the floor well. His skill and activity will translate to the next level.

John Paul Tijanich CG 6’2 Santa Margarita (CA)

-A strong guard who can get hot quickly. He can battle inside with post players and move in space vs perimeter players. He loves getting downhill using his strong build but he can hit the 3 at a decent rate. He can take a bump and score it plus is a sneaky good passer, as he made one full court pass on a dime that was incredible.
