Region by Region: Class B Breakout Player Candidates (SD)

Top players we have our eyes on for a breakout 2020-21 season? Here is the PHD list for Class B!

Region 1. [player_tooltip player_id="975514" first="Landon" last="Leidholt"] of Warner. An all league level player that has the ability to start playing at an All State level his senior year. Landon is a bigger wing and in Class B he’s often one of the bigger players on the floor. That gives him an edge but the biggest edge he has is that Landon moves better than everybody else on the floor to his explosive right hand finish meaning defenses have a tough time contesting.

Region 2. [player_tooltip player_id="975518" first="Sam" last="Aslesen"] of Howard. Sam has grown to 6-foot-7 and that is why it was such a big commitment when Sam recently pledged to DWU. So why is Sam going to be a breakout player? He put up 17 and 7 last year a couple inches smaller and less experienced. Now Sam is about to be the biggest player on the floor and the most skilled player on the floor. Look out South Dakota!

Region 3. [player_tooltip player_id="975521" first="Garret" last="Kerkvliet"] of Castlewood. There are three things that I think of when I see Garret’s name: 1) strength as a guard, 2) potential for big range on a solid jumper, 3) body control going at the rim. These three things I believe could make him an all state talent.

Region 4. [player_tooltip player_id="968170" first="Stratton" last="Eppard"] of Chester Area. Toughness. That’s why we have our eyes on this junior, toughness. A guy that loves a challenge. When PHD first started, Chester Area was routinely a top team and Eppard is the type of guy that could lead a group to a similar area. When teammates see a guy like Eppard defending the top opposing player and then putting up 12 and 7 along with it, they follow willingly and excitedly.

Region 5. [player_tooltip player_id="975508" first="Tyce" last="Ortman"] of Canistota. [player_tooltip player_id="975508" first="Tyce" last="Ortman"] has one of the best pull-up jumpers you will see any place. His quickness into his lift followed by the soft touch, it’s poetry in motion. One of the many things he can do as an All State level top 20 player in the state. A huge year could be coming.

Region 6. [player_tooltip player_id="812195" first="Coy" last="Determan"] of Gregory. Coy is one of the best 3-4 juniors in Class B and he has his sights set on something even bigger. Determan is in the 40% club - guys that regularly shoot at the 40 percent level for a year or more from the arc - plus Coy is an all around producer. Type of talent that we expect to average 20/8/6 this year while recording multiple triple-doubles.

Region 7. Wyatt Olson of Jones County. Wyatt will be one of the best combo guards/wings in Class B this year. He’s a 5’11/6’0 guard capable of playing on or off the basketball and this year he should help his team improve by 5/6 games. Olson’s aggressive nature on the floor makes him one of the best attack finishing and rebounding guards.

Region 8. [player_tooltip player_id="963799" first="Keegan" last="Hett"] and [player_tooltip player_id="963800" first="Kelby" last="Hett"] of Harding County. Twins that have been identified early as having the work ethic and experience to break out this year. Brother Camden was fantastic as a senior, and now Keegan and Kelby look to be ready to step right in.
