Beltway Battle Showcase: Notable 2021 Wings/Forwards

Yesterday in Wilmington, DE was the second day of action for the Beltway Battle Showcase. Teams featured from Baltimore, New England, Philadelphia and Delaware were in attendance. The slate of games for Saturday included more teams, but even on Sunday, there was no shortage of talent in the gym.

Below are the noteworthy 2021 wings/forwards who impressed during Sunday’s slate.

Kareem Ewell | 6’7 | Team Delaware ’21

It was my first time seeing Ewell and it didn’t take long for him to leave an impact on me. He presents great length with a nice frame that still needs filling out, but approaches the game with the mindset of a big man when it comes to crashing the glass. However, offensively he can operate from anywhere on the floor and because of his size, presented mismatches with his quick first step, athleticism and ability to handle confidently on drives and isolations. He was a handful in the open floor as he led his team with a 26-points performance, which was the highest total of any game for the day. The fact that he has no offers from Division I or Division II programs was very surprising to me.

Jamai Felt | 6’9 | Team Choo ’21

Felt had another productive weekend as his name continues to gain momentum in the recruiting front. The 6-foot-9 southpaw even found his mark from three and showed great confidence, control and technique on the release. His best performance came against Ewell and Team Delaware as he finished with 15 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc. Felt provided his usual shot-blocking presence around the rim and was a consistent enforcer on the glass defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id="850508" first="Jerome" last="Brewer"] | 6’6 | WeR1

Brewer was the lone bright spot in WeR1’s loss to Team Thrill to cap an eventful day. The 6-foot-6 Camden High School product used his physicality to bully his way to the rim and score. Many of his buckets came with his back to the basket operating on the block or face-up situations where he would quickly rip through and get to the basket as he finished with a game-high 25 points. Brewer may be 6-foot-6, but plays and provides a presence much bigger than his listed size.

Eric Tynes | 6’5 | NE6 UAA

I was only present for Sunday’s slate of games, but those in the gym for Saturday’s relayed to me that Tynes was a standout for NE6. He had a nice showing against Team Thrill on Sunday as well. At 6-foot-5 Tynes has good length and approaches the game with a scoring mentality from the wing position. When he gets downhill he uses his length to finish around the rim. While he took good shots, his jumper was a bit off when I saw him, but you could tell the confidence and fluidity to his release that those were shots he usually cashed in on.

[player_tooltip player_id="902036" first="Malik" last="Missouri"] | 6’5 | Team Thrill ’21

It was good seeing Missouri getting back to the swing of things. After sitting out the majority of his junior season with a knee injury, the 6-foot-5 undersized forward is starting to show glimpses of his old self. While he still needs to improve his overall foot speed and explosiveness, Missouri got to where he wanted operating in face-up situations in the mid-post.
