Corner Conference: Class Of 2022’s Who Should Be Valued

<p>In an effort to provide new and unique ways to cover prospects, we thought it would be important to give some coverage to those that might not always get it. To do that, we will be digging deep into each conference in the state.</p> <p>After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches. </p> <p>We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches. </p> <p><strong>DJ Weilage - Heartland Christian</strong></p> <p>Heartland Christian nearly recorded a winning season in 2019-20, and the Eagles will look to Class of 2022 prospect DJ Weilage to make that happen this winter.</p> <p>Weilage is one of three returning starters back for Heartland Christian. He posted 327 points a year ago with 176 rebounds, 59 steals, 38 assists and 27 blocks.</p> <p>Those numbers were good to rank second in scoring, rebounding, assist and blocks, and first in steals for the Eagles. Weilage made over 42 percent of his attempts from the field.</p> <p><strong>Cole Jorgenson - Sidney</strong></p> <p>One-half of a talented Class of 2022 guard duo for Sidney, Cole Jorgenson scored 263 points with 91 rebounds, 44 assists and 31 steals last year.</p> <p>Jorgenson made nearly 36 percent of his shots, knocking down 44 three-pointers for the Cowboys, who went 12-11 and finished third in the conference.</p> <p>Sidney will be without leader [player_tooltip player_id="956048" first="Noah" last="Jorgenson"], but the return of the "other" Jorgenson should lead to success on the hardwood. </p> <p><strong>Carter Johnson - Stanton</strong></p> <p>If 2019-20 was just the start, Stanton’s Carter Johnson could be in for a big junior campaign.</p> <p>Johnson finished last year with 212 points to go along with 95 rebounds, 88 assists and 55 steals. He made almost 41 percent of his field goal attempts and knocked down a dozen three-pointers.</p> <p>With improved percentages from deep and the free throw line, Johnson could turn into quite the force in the Corner Conference. </p> <p><strong>Robert Bowell - Clarinda Academy</strong></p> <p>He only saw the court in 10 games last year for Clarinda Academy, but Robert Bowell made an impact. </p> <p>Bowell scored 173 points with 84 rebounds, 35 assists and 34 steals. He did most of his damage from inside the paint, making just eight three-pointers. </p> <p><strong>Garett Phillips - Sidney </strong></p> <p>Along with Cole Jorgenson, Garett Phillips provides Sidney with experience to build around.</p> <p>Phillips scored 247 points with a team-high 50 made three-pointers as a sophomore. He shot nearly 34 percent from deep, adding 68 rebounds, 41 assists and 41 steals. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
