Many players have shown enough simply on tape and colleges are watching now more than ever as they navigate these untested waters.
Here is a look at some of the summer stock risers from Florida.
Jace Carter Jace Carter 6'5" | CG Astronaut | 2021 State FL | 6-5 | Team Parsons/Astronaut
It has been a steady rise for 6-5 Astronaut guard Jace Carter Jace Carter 6'5" | CG Astronaut | 2021 State FL . A top scorer for the War Eagles since his freshman campaign, he took over the reins as the No. 1 guy last season and never looked back. This summer, he has looked stronger and even more mature on the court during the Team Parsons Virtual Player Evaluation Series showcase events. FIU, Toledo, Illinois Chicago, UT Chattanooga, Marshall, Vermont, Siena and Appalachian State have all offered over the last month with a few others coming prior. A very smart kid on and off the floor, Carter is in for a monster senior season and is well on his way to play Division I ball.
John Latimer III John Latimer III 6'0" | CG Apopka | 2021 State FL | 6-1 | Q6 All Stars/Apopka
Colleges certainly waited awhile to start showing real strong interest in 6-1 Apopka guard John Latimer. It really made no sense. He has been a leader and alpha guard for a while now in the Orlando area. He continues to build his upper body, has grown a few inches and plays with endless effort and energy. It has been a well deserved recent push for Latimer, who has generated offers from Presbyterian, Holy Cross and NJIT. A high academic kid, it is hard to miss him on the court.
Tyrone Baker Tyrone Baker 6'10" | PF Fort Bend Hightower | 2021 State TX | 6-10 | Team Parsons/Riverdale
The progressions 6-10 Riverdale forward/center Tyrone Baker Tyrone Baker 6'10" | PF Fort Bend Hightower | 2021 State TX has made over just the last year is impressive. He is still trying to add muscle to his thin long frame, but he went from being a defensive specialist two years ago and a decent finisher to a good ballhandler and slasher last season. Baker has improved his ballhandling and attack further and dominated defensively at the Team Parsons Virtual Player Evaluation Series events often. A true two-way player, he is certainly a Division I talent with offers from FGCU, FIU, FAU, Stetson, UNC Wilmington, Louisiana-Monroe and Iona among others.
Matthew Lentz Matthew Lentz 6'7" | PF Durant | 2021 State FL | 6-7 | Team Parsons/Durant
During the final Team Parsons Virtual Player Evaluation Series event late last month, Matthew Lentz Matthew Lentz 6'7" | PF Durant | 2021 State FL put on a hot shooting display in Orlando. The 6-7 Durant forward has always been a naturally gifted shooter, but he was simply on fire in this game, hitting over seven 3’s in the first half of play from my count. He continued to do more of the same in the second half even with defenders right in his face. He has great size and if he keeps drilling shots at a high clip and attacking the basket to draw contact, then he will be just fine. Division I and Division II programs are keeping close tabs on him.
Omarie Sherrod Omarie Sherrod 5'11" | CG St. Pete | 2021 State FL | 5-11 | Basketball Warehouse/St. Pete
Is anyone looking for a bonafide athletic guard who can get up on the glass and fly up and down the court? Well, look no further than 5-11 St. Pete guard Omarie Sherrod Omarie Sherrod 5'11" | CG St. Pete | 2021 State FL . It seems as if he adds to his vertical every time I see him workout or in a team game. At the Prep Hoops Proving Grounds at Lake Point in Atlanta a few weeks ago, he threw down a vicious one-handed dunk on a defender against North Metro Elite. Playing for the Basketball Warehouse, Sherrod continues to add to his game and it is showing up on film. He is a bursty, energetic and flat out pure athlete. Colleges need to take notice.
Bobby Stewart Bobby Stewart 6'8" | C St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL | 6-8 | Team Parsons/St. Andrew’s
Transferring to St. Andrew’s from Boca Raton, 6-8 forward Bobby Stewart Bobby Stewart 6'8" | C St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL joins Memphis commit Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL on the defending Class 3A championship squad. Last year, it was Yussif Basa-Ama Yussif Basa-Ama 6'9" | PF St. Andrews | 2020 State #264 Nation FL , a current freshman at Yale who led the team alongside Minott and now Stewart will do his best to give the Scots yet another dynamic big duo. Seeing him at the Team Parsons Virtual Player Evaluation Series, he has a knack for the outside shot and simply plays with endless heart and smarts. Stewart is not the fastest player, but he is a big body with solid enough foot speed to work inside. He is a bloomer.
