This weekend I was back at The Big House Sports Complex in Taveres, Florida for the E1T1/TNBA South Event. There was a lot of local talent on display with Team M.O.A.M. getting the better of Q6-All Stars Perry in the finals of the boys oldest division 70-59. These are a few of the players from the class of 2021 who stood out this weekend:

Team TMAC

SF/PF [player_tooltip player_id="818743" first="Diego" last="Platas-Ivan"] 6-7 Auburndale

A finesse player, who has the fluidity to play out on the perimeter Platas-Ivan was one of the most impressive prospects at the tournament this weekend. A deadeye 3-point shooter, the hybrid forward was clicking on all cylinders this weekend averaging around 20 points per game, in addition to rebounding the ball well. Offensively the forward uses angles well in post, and always knows when it’s time to pass and time to score. With Division II offers already in hand, expect many college coaches to make there way to Polk County this winter. Platas-Ivan would thrive on a team with a read in react offense, and zone defense. I am told that he also has big time grades, and test scores.

Filling the Lane (FTL)

SG [player_tooltip player_id="714940" first="Marcellus" last="Thomas"] 6-3 Kathleen

A fast-twitch athlete, the Kathleen native turned some heads this past weekend with his playmaking ability. With quick hands and feet, the guard flew around the court beating his man to the spot, and poking the ball loose on defense. On offense, Thomas attacked the rim with confidence getting to the free throw line, and also showed off some post moves to go along with a mid range pull-up. Returning as a starter, expect to see a huge senior season from Thomas, as he holds major upside.

Get Buckets

G [player_tooltip player_id="953083" first="Bryce" last="Johnson"] 6-3 Oldsmar Christian, PG Nyseia Williams 6-0 Lake Howell

Averaging just over 22 points on the weekend, Johnson showed the ability to score at all three levels. Against the Q6 All stars, he single handedly kept his team in the game for three quarters putting on an impressive offensive display ending with 28 points. With a strong spring and summer, Johnson’s confidence should result in a big time senior season.

A strong-bodied point guard, Williams was impressive this past weekend scoring from all over the court. With quick hands, and great defensive instincts he got into pass lanes on several occasions resulting in transition points. Transferring in to Lake Howell for his senior year, Williams should form an excellent inside out scoring attack with 6-7 big man Jonah Pierce.

Jacksonville Warriors

F [player_tooltip player_id="818730" first="Bryce" last="Turner"] 6-6 Andrew Jackson

A bouncy combo forward, Turner was active on the glass and excelled in transition this past weekend for the Warriors. Scoring from the mid-range, he also did and excellent job using the rim to shield off defenders scoring in the post. With Andrew Jackson losing standout forward [player_tooltip player_id="828012" first="Logan" last="West"] to graduation, Turner seems more than ready to help fill the void.

Florida Sharks

SG Jonathan Suarez 6-4 Downey Christian

A long athletic shooting guard, Suarez impressed this weekend with his ability to stretch the floor. A more than willing passer, he did an excellent job getting his teammates involved. A 6-6 wingspan allows Suarez to have major upside, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

Florida Rams

G Will Van Hook 6-1 Palm Beach Central

A crafty guard, Van Hook displayed the ability to play both guard positions this weekend. On offense, he hit several 3-pointers, and made some hard drives to the basket. With solid vision, Van Hook created scoring opportunities for his teammates. With a couple of strong showings this summer, expect to see Van hook have a standout senior season.
