Film Room: Highlighting 2022 Prospects (II)

<p>Back in April, as it became more and more bleak for Southern California basketball players to get back in the gym to improve and be evaluated, I began an initiative to help players improve their games virtually.</p> <p>The gist of the program was this: I offered to review a prospect’s full game film and provide a detailed scouting report on that player’s strengths and weaknesses, along with some workout tools developed by a friend and trainer.</p> <p>The idea quickly took off and as my email inbox filled with submissions from across the country, I thought it would be great to highlight some of those players on the Prep Hoops platform, as well. So, here are a handful of 2022 prospects I reviewed over the last few months.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="972412" first="Shyheim" last="Parm"]</strong>, Cajon - Parm was one of the biggest surprises during the course of our film study. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is an explosive scorer with good overall feel and pace for the game. In transition, Parm is an athletic slasher who can absorb and finish through contact or finish above the rim. In the half-court setting, Parm is great at setting up his defender for a hard-right drive, then spinning back to his left for a bucket. Parm makes a major impact on the defensive end with this anticipation and quick hands.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="748736" first="Robert" last="Aguirre"]</strong>, Marina - Aguirre has been a big time perimeter shooting threat since he entered high school and nothing has changed with the 5-foot-11 rising junior. Aguirre is best and most consistent when pulling off the catch on the wing or from the short corners. He moves well without the ball and must continue to improve his ball-handling and finishing ability around the rim.</p> <p><strong>Jake Bluestein</strong>, La Jolla Country Day - Bluestein is a great energy guy on both ends of the floor who knocks down three-point shots with regularity. The 5-foot-10 shooting guard has smooth and repeatable mechanics with a great release point. He doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off and can hit consistently from multiple spots behind the arc. The next step for Bluestein is to become more comfortable handling the ball under pressure and creating shots for himself and teammates.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="954230" first="Barrington" last="Hargress"]</strong>, Ribet Academy - Hargress is a highly-regarded 2022 point guard in the state because of his combination of poise, physicality and high-rate scoring ability in transition. The strong 6-foot-1 rising junior possesses good open floor speed to go along with his broad shoulders and is a tough cover in transition. In the half-court, Hargress uses ball-screens well and turns the corner to get into the paint where he can finish or set up a teammate for an open shot.</p>
