Most of Nebraska’s top programs were playing out of the state this past weekend. A couple of those programs were in Shawnee, Kansas at the Sunflower Showcase. Omaha Sports Academy and Powerhouse Hoops Nebraska both sent teams to compete at the showcase. One of the most interesting guard prospects in Nebraska was also playing at the event with the Iowa Barnstormers. Here is a look at the 10 prospects from Nebraska that impressed at the Sunflower Showcase.

Powerhouse Hoops Nebraska Skierka

[player_tooltip player_id="890469" first="Faisaun" last="Germany"]

Germany is a strong and aggressive guard that is active on both ends of the floor. He is an excellent rebounder that can start the break with smart passes or take it the length of the floor himself. He can score from anywhere on the court and creates shots for himself without over dribbling. Multiple times over the weekend he was able to drive hard to the right and spin back to score with his left hand. Germany knocked down shots, created contact, and finished with creativity all weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="890487" first="Josh" last="Brown"]

Brown is a quick ball handler that can size up defenders and beat them off the dribble. He has good footwork on hop steps, euro steps, and other scoring moves around the basket. He is good at initiating the offense, finding the open man, and moving the ball. Brown showed off his smooth shooting stroke with back to back corner threes in the second half of a win against Out Train the Game.

[player_tooltip player_id="981700" first="Jared" last="Bohrer"]

Bohrer is a good outside shooter with a quick release and range on his jump shot. He works hard off the ball to get open looks for himself and has good footwork and balance coming off screens. He pushes the ball up the floor as the ball handler and attacks gaps to force the defense to set up quickly. Bohrer doesn’t often see a three point shot he doesn't like, and he was knocking them down this weekend.

Iowa Barnstormers 17u Gold

[player_tooltip player_id="890466" first="Jaren" last="Marshall"]

Marshall is a slashing point guard that was able to blow by defenders consistently to get to the rim this weekend. He didn’t force too many shots or waste dribbles. He used his quick first step to attacks gaps and finish while avoiding shot blockers at the rim. He also hit a few outside jump shots, initiated the offense, and assisted on many Barnstormers baskets.

Powerhouse Hoops Nebraska LaNoue

[player_tooltip player_id="890517" first="Chaz" last="Cullum"]

Cullum is a strong combo guard that can size up defenders and weave and bully his way through traffic in the paint. He splits defenders and covers a lot of ground with big hop steps in the lane. He has good vision to push the ball ahead in transition and makes quick extra passes to open shooters. Powerhouse Hoop NE LaNoue doesn’t have a lot of size on the interior, but Cullum helped this weekend by being physically and using his athleticism to elevate for defensive rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="1020518" first="Brayden" last="Gregurich"]

Gregurich is a good spot up shooter and an unselfish wing that is strong with the ball. He has soft touch and a smooth jump shot from three. He is good at finding space in the corners to shoot, but Gregurich isn’t just a shooter. He also attacked gaps in the defense and made plays for teammates.

OSA Crusaders - Franzese

[player_tooltip player_id="890467" first="Lucas" last="Vogt"]

Vogt is a scrappy guard that is all over the floor. He is quick with active hands defensively to tip passes. Offensively, he is unselfish and picks his spots when to be aggressive. He scores efficiently and knows when to take it to the rim or pull up in the midrange. Against Grassroots Sizzle, Vogt was great at getting down the floor in transition and made the right play assisting on easy layups and open threes.

[player_tooltip player_id="890479" first="Saint" last="Thomas"]

Thomas is a reliable finisher around the rim that is patient and gets defenders off their feet with good pump fakes. He ran the floor well and made a lot of play against Grassroots Sizzle. He played solid defense, forced tough shots, and in one sequence, he blocked a jump shot with a strong close out and then started the break with a quick outlet pass. Thomas also showed his touch and ability to create from the outside. With about a minute until halftime, he created some space with a quick crossover, rose up over his defender, and buried one of his many three pointers of the afternoon.

[player_tooltip player_id="773443" first="Hunter" last="Sallis"]

When talking about impressive players from Nebraska, its hard not to mention Sallis. He is a serious scoring threat from all three levels. He finished effortlessly at the rim and created great looks for himself in the midrange. He made defenders pay by knocking down three point shots when they didn’t pressure the ball or close out. Sallis’ ability to get defenders off balance with quick jab steps and ball fakes is special.

[player_tooltip player_id="890463" first="Denim" last="Johnson"]

Johnson came off the bench against Grassroots Sizzle and immediately finished a two handed alley oop on his first offensive possession. He is a special athlete with a high motor that can do a lot of things for the crusaders. He helps as a ball handler, is a great perimeter defender, and plays much bigger than he is on the interior. Johnson drove the baselines well and cut hard to finish with power and get to the free throw line.
