Players to Watch: Delaware County’s Class of 2024

These ballers have yet to step into a high school class room, but they are already on our radar. One or two of these youngsters will have an impact at the varsity level. Others will be key players on their school’s JV team. The rest will dominate on the freshman squad. No matter which level they play at in 2020-21, you should get to know their name now because it’s my prediction that someday each one of them will make headlines on this site. Let’s take a peek into the bright future of Delco high school hoops. Below is a list of players from the Class of 2024 to keep an eye on for the next couple of years. Karmon Bambara – Cardinal O’Hara 6’3’’ Freshman Center: The “little” brother of O’Hara varsity star [player_tooltip player_id="990975" first="Solo" last="Bambara"], Karmon (RT Thunder AAU) is a developing offensive talent who is growing into his size 15 shoes. But make no mistake, the younger Bambara’s ability to impact a game is second to none in Delco’s Class of 2024. An enormously long wingspan makes this rising 9th grader a dominant force on the glass at both ends as well as a shot blocking machine. A nice flip hook and serviceable jumper from in close are Bambara’s key offensive weapons. Bambara is also a budding football star – a quarterback with a cannon for an arm. Eric Demyun – Episcopal Academy 5’11’’ Freshman Wing: A starter for East Coast Power’s (King of Prussia, PA) decorated 15U AAU program, Demyun is what all of today’s NBA scouts drool over -- a stretch-4. Demyun is a lights-out three point shooter who can come off pick action or use the dribble to free himself up for a shot. A long and fast athlete, Demyun also excels on the fast break by scoring over people. As a bonus, at the other end of the floor, his length makes Demyun a defensive menace. [player_tooltip player_id="991425" first="Moses" last="Hipps"] – Archbishop Carroll 5’11’’ Freshman Shooting Guard: An elite level 3-point shooter with unlimited range, Hipps provides the outside firepower for Team Final’s vaunted 15U team. He excels at moving without the ball which makes Hipps very difficult to guard. That’s especially true when he operates in a drive and kick to the perimeter system. Complimenting Hipps’ outside shooting is his ability fill the wings on the break and his solid ball handling skills. Isaac Moore – Friends Central 6’1’’ Freshman Forward: A Region 32 CYO All-Star out of St. Denis (Havertown, PA), Moore’s game has taken significant strides in the last year. Once a solid player who simply relied on his physical advantages to take over games, last season Moore showed a more polished offensive skill set. He demonstrated the ability to beat opposing bigs off the dribble and a feathery touch on his mid-range jumper. Plus Moore is still a very athletic big man who can fall back on bully ball whenever he wants. Stephen Tansey – Marple Newtown 5’11’’ Freshman Point Guard: Tansey capped a tremendous 2019-20 season at St. Anastasia (Newtown Square, PA) by being named to the Philadelphia Archdiocese CYO All-Star team. A physical guard with good quickness, Tansey can out muscle defenders to get into the lane or shake a foe with the crossover. He owns a solid shooting stroke with range out to the 3-point arc. Still, the most impressive things about Tansey may be his court vision and ability to run a half-court offense. [player_tooltip player_id="991421" first="Ryan" last="Williams"] – Malvern Prep 6’0’’ Freshman Point Guard: Williams is an exceptional floor general who played on Malvern’s JV team as an 8th grader. If you have seen him at Malvern or running with Philly Triple Threat on the grassroots circuit, then you know Williams is a super quick guard with circus handles. That combination means Williams can get to the tin for a bucket whenever he wants. He can also shoot the J from any spot on the floor. Basically, Williams is a nearly complete player and thus a real problem for opposing defenses.   Other Notables: Ryan Pegg – Malvern Prep 5’9’’ Freshman Shooting Guard Henry Pierce – Archbishop Carroll 6’0’’ Freshman Forward Owen Smith – Radnor 5’6’’ Freshman Combo Guard
