Players across the nation are trying to get work in with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down the big AAU tournaments. Teams have been putting together workouts so prospects get a chance to go up against other competition. The ShoreShots had a workout yesterday where players showed off their ability to score the ball and explode to the basket. Here are the top leapers from the ShoreShots 16U/17U practice.

[player_tooltip player_id="850514" first="DiAndre" last="South"], 6’3 SG Pope John XXIII 2021

South is a high-level athlete who loves to finish above the rim. The 6’3 guard attacked the basket hard throughout the practice and was dunking with authority. South did not just dunk around the basket as he also made several nifty layups by expertly controlling his body to create space. He moved his feet well on the defensive end and changed speeds well with the ball in his hands. South is a dynamic guard who should be exciting for the ShoreShots 17U team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1017710" first="Jordan" last="Derkack"], 6’3 SG Colonia 2021

Derkack is one of the best leapers in the GMC and proved it throughout the practice. The 6’3 guard exploded to the basket during the transition drills as he routinely finished above the rim. Derkack also showed his athleticism on the defensive end as he had a chase-down block during the 5-on-5 games. He skied for rebounds throughout the practice and showed off good lateral quickness as well. Derkack is a big-time athlete who will have a strong summer for the ShoreShots 17U team.

[player_tooltip player_id="896649" first="Phil" last="Brown"], 6’5 SG Kent School (CT) 2021

Brown is a strong guard who knows how to finish around the basket. The 6’5 wing explodes to the basket in transition as he dunked the ball with authority. Brown changes speeds well in the halfcourt, which he uses to get to the basket. Similar to Derkack, Brown has a good chase-down block during the 5-on-5 game. His ability to finish around the rim combined with his athleticism makes Brown a strong wing option for the ShoreShots 17U team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1017707" first="Jaxon" last="Baker"], 6’1 CG Barnegat 2021

Baker may not be the biggest guard in the gym, but he can get up with the best of them. The 6’1 guard explodes to the rim and finished above the rim during the transition drills. Baker uses his athleticism to make tough layups and plays with good body control. He has good lateral quickness, which he uses to his advantage on both ends of the floor. Baker is a talented guard prospect who should help the ShoreShots 17U team this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="929483" first="Colin" last="Farrell"], 6’1 SG CBA 2021

Farrell is more known as a shooter and scorer, but he proved at the practice that he can finish above the rim. The 6’1 guard threw down multiple different dunks during the transition drills, including a nice two-handed jam. Farrell did not just use his athleticism to attack the basket as he challenged shots on the defensive end. He moved well laterally on defense and used his change of speed to create space. Farrell is a skilled guard who should make a lot of noise this summer.
