For the second straight weekend, AAU basketball was played in Dallas. After a great first weekend with the Dallas Showtyme Classic, it was Great American Shootout’s turn to host a tournament at the Duncanville Fieldhouse. This tournament featured countless talented teams and I had the opportunity to take in the action on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

[player_tooltip player_id="684406" first="Jalen" last="Lake"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G

[player_tooltip player_id="684406" first="Jalen" last="Lake"] is the definition of a bucket-getter. He is an exceptional three-point shooter, a good scorer in transition, and he even showed that he can score in isolation situations. Lake knows his spots and is very efficient. He can score in anyway he wants and has a nice mid-range jumper.

[player_tooltip player_id="1006614" first="Xavier" last="Savage"] - Texas Legion Elite - G

When the ball is in Savage’s hands, he is going to find a way to put it in the basket. Savage can score in a variety of ways off the dribble and can get to the basket. He is also a good free-throw shooter and a great shooter from downtown. His ability to draw fouls and finish around the basket made him a hard player to contain.

[player_tooltip player_id="887087" first="Elijah" last="Hughey"] - Lone Star Elite - G

Hughey is a walking highlight reel that can score at all three levels. He is a good shooter off the catch and off the dribble and a good slasher. Hughey is also a good isolation scorer that uses his handle to get to any spot that he wants. He is a good downhill scorer and an excellent finisher.

[player_tooltip player_id="779870" first="Zhuric" last="Phelps"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G

Phelps is a guard can score in any way that he wants. Although most of his points come off of drives, he also showed that he is a good three-point shooter. Phelps had multiple thunderous dunks over the course of the weekend and he is very diffucult to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id="887064" first="Jason" last="Thirdkill"] - Dallas Showtyme - F

Thirdkill is an all-around wing that is able to score in bunches when his team needs him to. In Dallas Showtyme’s 51-50 loss to Texas Legion Elite, Thirdkill scored 13 second-half points and fueled a comeback for his team. Thirdkill finished with 21 points and was seemingly unstoppable on that end of the floor. Thirdkill received his first division one offer from UT Arlington last month and I see him receiving several more by the end of the summer. His ceiling is extremely high and I see his offensive game to continue to improve as time goes on.
