Boss of Ball: Day 1 Standouts (Morning Session)

The purpose of the "Boss of Ball Showcase" being closed to the public was to minimize risk and the reason to live-stream the event and invite national scout Jerry Freitas was to increase visibility and give the attendees some additional exposure. The 45 campers were viewed by over 200 college colleges who were tuned in live.

The concept has proven to be extremely successful as two Auburn High players picked up Pac 12 offers moments after camp ended.

2022 6’2 [player_tooltip player_id="674438" first="Maleek" last="Arington"] PG (Auburn HS) had a great showing in the morning session and then answered a phone call in the parking lot from Coach Smith of WSU. He discovered that both he and his HS teammate 2022 6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="674428" first="Tre" last="Blassingame"] Wing (Auburn HS) were both receiving offers.

Blassingame showed great defensive versatility. He rebounded out of his area and consistently made the right play. Arington proved his worth running the show and was recognized for earning the most competition points in his class.

2021 6’1 [player_tooltip player_id="843745" first="Garrett" last="Long"] PG (Wenatchee HS) Long established himself earlier in the morning by winning the 1-on-1 competition for his group. Long is a well-known scorer who has already scored 1,000 points in his high school career including a 44 point outburst to open the season last year in which he averaged 21 points. To win the "King of the Court" competition Long had to play defense. He put together seven consecutive stops against [player_tooltip player_id="843746" first="Xavier" last="Bailey"], [player_tooltip player_id="843738" first="Champ" last="Spencer"], John Leonard (2021 6’3 Enumclaw-unranked) [player_tooltip player_id="843782" first="Nathan" last="Voliva"], [player_tooltip player_id="843737" first="Chike" last="Ezenou"], and 2021 6’11 Brody Rowbury from Meridan HS, Idaho

2021 5’7 [player_tooltip player_id="940529" first="Eddie" last="Brown"] PG (Emerald Ridge HS) was the top points earner for his class. Points were awarded for team wins, shooting competitions, and one-on-one "King of the Court" games. Brown displayed great quickness and physicality on defense to which Coach Joe Callero formerly of D-1 Cal-Poly said, "He is a D-1 defender right now!" Brown has improved his handles since the winter season and nobody was able to keep him from getting into the paint where he showed a variety of finishes and effective passes.

2021 6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="843746" first="Xavier" last="Bailey"] PG (Lindbergh High) looked more comfortable playing the point than he did last winter. He did not take bad shots and used his upper body strength to get get to the rim and draw double teams. He played physical defense without reaching and pivoted away from trouble to find open teammates.

2021 6’5 [player_tooltip player_id="843735" first="Jalen" last="Barbee"] Wing (Franklin Pierce) finished in the top five for total competition points. Great length and good straight speed.

2021 6’3 [player_tooltip player_id="843737" first="Chike" last="Ezeonu"] Wing (Seattle Prep) may have displayed the best energy but still makes plays look easy- he has a smooth jump shot off the dribble which is a quicker release than his catch and shoot.

2021 6’5 Jackson Dorsey Wing (Wilson) The bouncy lefty was the best athlete in the gym and ran the floor for easy finishes and rose above defenders in traffic when guarded. Currently unranked and overlooked. I fully expect Dorsey to crack the top 100 for his class after summer updates are made.
