Willamette Elite Camp - More Eye Catchers

Willamette University recently held its Elite Camp and close to 40 participants arrived at the Sparks Center to learn from head coach Mike Lenahan and his coaching staff and players. The competition was solid and as usual, there was a big group of in-state prospects in attendance. After going over our notes and talking with some of the observers in attendance, here's a look at some more players that caught our eye - including a couple from out-of-state. One of the younger players in attendance, watching Holestine you would have never known given the confidence he showed on the court. The 6-foot sophomore attacked the basket and finished with both hands, knocked down open shots, and showed a good motor throughout all the full court games. He will no doubt be a key piece at Central this upcoming season. One of the better shooters at camp was Abuna, who seemingly knocked down every open look that he got. The senior guard operated well both with and without the basketball in his hands, capably moving the ball in the offense while getting to the right spots to get clean looks at the hoop. He took good care of the basketball and simply made the right plays at the right time. This was our first look at Atigedewe and mark us down as intrigued. The 5-foot-10 junior combo guard is a good athlete with a pretty nice looking perimeter shot and he could also operate a little off the bounce. It will be interesting to continue watching his development with a bigger role at Glencoe this upcoming season. Another player that played great team basketball was McComas. The 6-foot-3 junior has a solid build and wasn't afraid to get physical on the boards and on defense. He played smart basketball, knocked down some open jumpers, and completed some strong finishes around the basket. One of the out-of-state players that really caught our attention was Brage as he was one of the top bucket getters among all players in attendance. A wing with good size at 6-foot-4, the senior was getting it done at all three levels and did so with balance. The player with perhaps the longest journey to Willamette was Kosugi, a Japanese native currently playing in Kentucky at Wesley Christian. The 5-foot-7 senior is a jitterbug of a point guard, very difficult to contain off the dribble not only because of his quickness but his non-stop motor as well. Kosugi continually harassed his assignment on defense, which led to a number of turnovers and fast break opportunities.
