Skills Summit: 2028 Stock-Risers

LA HABRA, Calif. — The 7th installment of the Hoops By Ugland Skills Summit brought together 117 players from across Southern California for a competitive one-day event at Sonora high school. The prospects spanned the classes of 2027 through 2031 and ranged from surefire Division 1 caliber recruits to those looking to put their name on the radar. Below we break down the juniors who boosted their stock.    Murray was one of the most versatile players in this camp with his dribble, pass, shoot and post-up skill-set allows him to stretch the floor to the three-point line off the catch, post up and score on smaller defenders and create off the bounce for himself and teammates. Murray continues to improve his frame which has resulted in increased speed and vertical athleticism all while maintaining his ability to impact the game with physicality.     Macelroy has an intriguing combination of explosive athleticism and a long, wiry frame which led to him being an efficient scorer in transition opportunities. The 6-foot-4 junior used long strides to cover ground quickly in the open court and scored with touch around the rim. Macelroy also impacted the game as a slasher and finisher in half-court offensive situations both on and off the ball.     There weren't many players in this event who played with the same motor and level of physicality that Baskett brought to the floor. The 6-foot-3 guard has a college-ready frame and a combination of downhill speed and vertical athleticism that overwhelmed most defenders in the lane. Baskett was in constant attack mode, seemed to never get tired and proved that he can compete among the region's best in the 2028 class.     White has made considerable strides with his offensive game since the end of last season and he was able to get to the rim at-will throughout the Skills Summit. The physical and athletic 6-foot-3 lefty was putting pressure on the rim as a cutter, driver and lane-filler in transition. White attacked the basket with purpose where he finished above the rim, through contact and with finesse and touch when needed. One of the most impressive part of White's effort was his pursuit of offenisve rebounds.     Burton was very impressive on the offensive end with his shot-making ability from all levels of the floor. The 6-foot-2 lefty has a true "combo guard" skill-set as he leans into his scoring ability but also has the feel and basketball IQ to make plays for others when that initial off-bounce creativity doesn't come to fruition. Burton was on point from three-point range, both off the catch and off the bounce, and showed the ability to get to a right-bounce mid-range jumper.     Smith was a bit of an unsung hero for Crespi last season as a high energy, change of pace guard off the bench who brought great defensive intensity and playmaking prowess. The 5-foot-8 guard is a quick, shifty and confident creator whose ability to change speed and direction allowed him to earn paint touches where he scored on a crafty bucket or made a timely and accurate pass to an open teammate. Smith plays much bigger than his size would lead one to believe.     Evans is a SoCal sleeper but the "sleeper" tag may not last much longer as he will be on some bigger stages this year after his transfer from Cleveland to Heritage Christian. Evans is a wiry-smooth athlete at 6-feet-3 with a good pop of vertical athleticism which made him one of the better at-rim finishers in the event. Evans attacked the rim effortlessly in transition and made it a point to get out and run the floor to generate easy transition buckets.
