LONG BEACH — We were at McBride high school Saturday and Sunday for another installment of Dinos Trigonis' Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph camp which featured many of the best first and second-year prospects in the Western U.S. The event featured 120-plus campers with Top 60 and Top 30 games on Sunday. Below we take a closer look at the forwards and centers who stood out during the two-day event and earned an invite to the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game.

Alexander, just an eighth grader, made his mark as one of the long-term prospects in the entire event due to his combination of size, strength and skill. The 6-foot-8 center is extremely light on his feet for a player of his size and used his physicality, footwork and touch to score on high percentage finishes around the basket. Alexander showed advanced offensive feel with his back to the basket complete with power finishes through contact and impressive back to the basket feel. Alexander averaged 19.3 points per game during this event.

Davies stood out with his willingness to stay true to his position and skill-set which made him not only a top performer in the event but also an anomaly for the showcase setting. The 6-foot-10, 215-plus pound center was dominating around the basket with his ability to use his strength to carve out space for post touches and his blend of physical and skill finishes in the paint. Davies scored with efficiency, dominated his area on the glass and protected the rim with his length and timing. The sophomore averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game throughout the camp games.

Poole's impact on both ends of the floor was felt through his blend of physical and athletic tools which led to his ability to get downhill and attack the rim in transition. In half-court settings, Poole was a tough cover when facing up on the perimeter or at the mid post where he used his explosiveness and strength to power through contact and score on high percentage finishes. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 18 points per game on 73.5 percent from the field.

Demirozu, a native of Turkey who will begin his high school basketball at Los Angeles-based Campbell Hall, showed off his plethora of perimeter skill throughout this event. The 6-foot-7 stretch-four was most effective behind the three-point line where he connected on spot-up, trail and pick-and-pop threes with consistency and showed an impressive feel for floor spacing on the offensive end. Demirozu has some international playing experience and it showed in his mature approach to the game. The freshman averaged 16.7 points during the camp games and earned Top 30 Co-MVP honors with a 14-point effort where he connected on four three-pointers.

Banfield was the clear choice for the overall camp MVP after he turned in impressive performance after impressive performance. The 6-foot-7 forward had his versatile offensive skill-set on full display with his ability to knock down catch-and-shoot threes, strong drives and finishes at the rim and his low block scoring and creating feel. Banfield was also a beast on the offensive and defensive glass. The Arizona-based prospect, by way of Canada, averaged 27 points and 10.7 rebounds during the camp games and added 14 points in the Top 30 game.

Kish is still in the beginning stages of his development but has improved drastically since the last few times we watched him play in both the spring and summer. The freshman from Nevada is still getting used to his long, wiry frame but the 6-foot-10 center used his size, length, mobility and timing to deter, alter and block shots around the basket. Kish is still a work in progress offensively but he has some good early fundamentals with his ability to keep the ball high, soft touch around the basket and his impact on the offensive glass. Kish averaged 9.3 points and seven rebounds per game.

Felix impressed with his well-balanced, all-around game. The 6-foot-8 power forward/center has back to the basket feel as a scorer and passer and it was all predicated by his willingness to use his tools on the block. Felix demanded and took post position, was patient on his touches on the block and diagnosed the defense to make high IQ decisions with the ball. Felix scored with power and touch and hit open cutters and shooters with timely and accurate passes.
