The PSAL annually provides opportunities for new names to emerge, and the 2026-27 season should be no different. Whether it's a talented freshman jumping directly into a varsity rotation, a young player making the move up after impressing at the lower levels, or a returner finally getting the minutes and touches to showcase what he can do, every program has someone capable of taking a significant step forward. We go team by team through the 4A PSAL Queens II division to identify one player from each team who could be poised for a breakout season.

Eagle III has plenty of talent at the point guard position, but it's Jordan who's the best shooter of their bunch. The senior guard stuck at least one every game last year and should be counted on to do just that again this year. After finishing 1st in the division the thought is they have the pieces to repeat and more this season. If there were ever a year for The Queens bunch to join their Bronx and Brooklyn counterparts as borough champions- this is it.

Far Rockaway is interesting this season as they return star senior wings [player_tooltip player_id='3573356' first='Starling' last='Mauricio'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3735793' first='Markus' last='Gulley'] as both double double threats who helped The Sea Horses to a second place finish in Queens II last year. Besides those two, no one else returning hit more than two threes last season. Enter Walker, who played sparingly in his first year of high school but has significant potential. A smooth stroke and an innate ability to put the ball in the basket make him a good bet to settle into that third offensive threat role this season.

With senior wing Matt Maynard off to the college ranks- there's more minutes and need for AMS' second leading rebounder to step into this season. Johnson is an active wing forward who can put up points in a hurry when given the opportunity. His ability to attack out of the high post and finish through contact helps him to get to the line and add extra points along the way. August Martin returns a good bit of it's rotation from last year and should make some noise in Queens II

The lanky Queens combo guard was one of the better freshmen in the PSAL last season - leading his team in scoring and rebounding during his first high school season. At 6-foot-5 he offers versatility, able to shoot from the mid-range or score on the block. While he's streaky, he showcased the ability to knock in open threes when given time. As he gets stronger and more confident from range, he should solidify himself as a player to watch in 2029.

The talented guard jumped onto Varsity sophomore year and led a young Redhawk program in scoring throughout the year at just over 14 points a game. With backcourt partner Nazier Burnett transferring out- that number figures to rise considerably his junior campaign. More of a scorer by nature, he likely will be asked to run the offense and act as a lead guard a majority of the time as well. Construction has some pieces around him, most largely unproven. If they're going to move up the standings and contend for a Queens crown again, Mohan will have to lead the way.

After averaging 5 points and 5 boards last season, it's not a stretch to think that Boluwade will increase both numbers as Springfield looks to climb the standings and be a bit more competitive. A hard playing forward who spots the ball off the rim well and finishes around the basket- he will play a part inside for the Queens program.
