Elite 50 Middle School Showcase Standouts

Before the top players were the top players, they were still figuring out who they were as a prospect, Sunday, 50 of the best young prospects were in one gym training and competing against one another. The Elite 50 Camp has showcased several high profile prospects and this edition is likely no different. Here are five players who stood out and should be on your radar going forward.    One of the best players in the gym and the class of 2031 overall. Darryl is a name you need to monitor closely over the next few years. The skill level is off the charts along with the IQ and competitiveness. He specializes in getting downhill where he can finish with either hand. Already has a mature frame that allows him to absorb contact when converting at the rim. He flashed the ability to get above the rim a few times, so the athleticism is there as well. When defenders sagged off and dared him to shoot, he made them pay. As the shot making improves, Darryl is poised to be one of the best players in the class of 2031.     In a shooting drill, the trainers kind of hinted to Legend that he could step in for a two instead of a three if he wanted. He proceeded to knock down four straight threes, one from college range. The shooting stroke is real and not only from three, but Legend was effective in the mid-range area. At his size and age, the willingness to attack mismatches instead of settling for bad shots is impressive. When smaller defenders were on him, he would go down to the block and shoot over them. As his body develops and he enhances his skillset, especially ball handling, Legend will be another prospect to monitor.     From a physicality standpoint, not one player was better than Treshaun. He was effective on both sides of the ball with his physicality, athleticism, and motor. Defensively he was able to provide elite rim protection as well as step out to defend guards. An effective rebounder, especially on the offensive end of the floor. Shot the ball well in drills, so the touch is there but a lot of his damage in games were done in the paint. Finishing wasn't an issue whether the contact was there or not and I was impressed with how well he created off the dribble at his size.     From a shot making perspective, Caison was at the top of the field. He made shots from all over the floor in a variety of ways. The movement off the ball was sharp and crisp, which allowed him to lose defenders consistently. Movement shooting was only the first way Caison was effective shooting the ball. As a spot up shooter, he was nearly automatic. The small things like relocating on strong side drives to get into the passers vision showcased the type of IQ that Caison has. Utilizing his shooting gravity to attack closeouts and cut backdoor was effective during his off-ball movement. Defensively he was disruptive with his quick hands and good footwork. I was really impressed with his ability to defend in space and finish possessions with rebounds. An all-around solid performance from Caison.     The skill level and scoring prowess was on full display all day for Masiyah. One of the best three level scorers in the gym and did so with ease. A smooth, fluid, poised guard with the ball in his hands and can score or facilitate effectively. Off the ball, he cut well and finished possessions at the rim with crafty finishes. He's not overly strong or powerful but he was impossible to knock off his spot or prevent him from getting to the paint. When touching the paint, he took what the defense gave him and made the right play consistently. Defensively he wreaked havoc with his instincts, fast hands, and pressure. Constantly turned defense to offense and was just a high contributor to winning basketball.
