Difference Makers from the Freshman Showcase

First up from this past weekend's Freshman Showcase is a look at 6 of the top performers from the camp. There will be more coverage throughout the week! Including highlights on our social media account.    Dunbar backed up high expectations with a strong combo of power and finesse. He's hard to keep out of the paint with his strength and ability to play at his own pace. Even has advanced moves and footwork, including a windmill gather. Love his score first nature as a strong finisher and even getting on the offensive glass. Motor runs hot and seems to play with an urgency and physicality not often seen at this stage in a prospect's development. His shooting and moves to create space from three seem to be coming along. And those will two important areas to track for him to continue to stay around the top of the class.     The big fellow is expected to make an immediate impact at Norman. In the more open setting of camp basketball, along with playing agains this age group, Kendrix flashed more of a perimeter skillset than when watching him at UCO team camp. Often caught the ball along the wing and attacked with purpose. Including a transition slam. Another time in transition he even drained an in rhythm pull up three. All very impressive long term indicators of his ceiling.   However his early path to production for the defending Class 6A likely comes with him continuing to play physical and battling inside. Which given his already strong frame, he does have some grown man type finishes and extended post ups.     Shifty point guard, with outstanding handles. Plays with good pace, as he didn't look in a hurry or rushed on drives. Scored some himself, but also often routinely got into the paint and made the right passes to open teammates. Impressed with his eye discipline by waiting to the last second which kept defenders focused on him, then kicked it out to teammates. Very fun prospect to watch, who clearly has played a lot of hoops. Will be a long term name to track.     A freshman who is built and skilled enough to make an immediate impact at Midwest City. Fantastic finisher with great body control, which makes him very smooth off the bounce. Already has good hang time and can switch hands to avoid block attempts. Was one of the more consistent and productive performers throughout 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 play.     Camp settings are usually about scoring the rock and Whiteshield can do that. However he also stood out on the defense end. Has active hands and good instincts in the passing lanes. The best example was this when he skied to tip a skip pass, then recovered the loose ball and unselfishly pitched it ahead to assist a teammate. Felt like a player who simply knows how to impact with winning plays. Hit a couple jumpers as well during 5 on 5, including getting the shooter's roll for one mid-range make.     Neal has an ease of movement to his game that allowed him to get to the rim just about anytime he wanted. Glides by defenders in transition while also exploding by them in the halfcourt. Was one of the better finishers at the count, with a variety of tough scores. Got loose in transition one time for a "baby dunk" further illustrating the athletic potential for the Timberwolf freshman. It appears his shot needs some work, but has the clear physical traits to make an immediate impact at the 6A level. Complete with an outstanding long term ceiling.
