CP3 Rising Stars National Camp: Superlative Awards (Tar Heels)

Winston-Salem, NC — The 14th annual CP3 Rising Stars National Camp featured Class of 2030 prospects from across the country in Winston-Salem for three days of skill development and competitive action. Station work gave players an opportunity to display different areas of their games before five-on-five play allowed our staff to evaluate how they performed within a team structure. The camp provided a closer look at each prospect's skill set, decision-making and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor. As our team-by-team coverage continues, we shift our focus to the Tar Heels and several players who produced quality performances at the event... CJ Cameron was one of the better athletes at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp, using his physical tools to impact both ends of the floor. He played above the rim offensively, ran the floor well and used his explosiveness to finish around the basket. On defense, Cameron covered ground quickly and had the versatility to guard multiple positions. His athleticism allowed him to contribute in several areas while giving his team consistent activity on both ends. Cameron made good use of his physical advantages whenever he was on the floor. Eli Nelson displayed an advanced handle at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp, consistently using his ball control to work his way past defenders and create advantages off the dribble. He changed speeds well, kept the basketball under control in traffic and rarely looked rushed with pressure in front of him. Nelson also played with a high basketball IQ, recognizing openings in the defense and making smart decisions once he created separation. His combination of handle and feel allowed him to consistently create opportunities for himself and his teammates. Liam Quintana provided plenty of defensive versatility at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. He had the ability to defend multiple positions, matching up with guards on the perimeter while also handling bigger players when needed. Quintana moved his feet well, stayed active away from the basketball and competed on each possession. His versatility allowed his team to use him in different matchups without sacrificing much on the defensive end. Brody Wedel was a consistent presence on the glass at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. He pursued the basketball well off the rim and used strong hands to secure rebounds through traffic. Wedel did a good job cleaning up the glass on both ends, limiting extra opportunities defensively while creating additional possessions on offense. His effort and physicality around the basket allowed him to provide steady production as a rebounder. Naeem Easter brought plenty of scoring versatility to the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. He produced from all three levels, finishing around the basket, converting from the mid-range and knocking down shots from behind the arc. Easter adjusted well to different defensive coverages and found multiple ways to create scoring opportunities. His offensive skill set made him a difficult matchup because defenders could not take away one area of the floor and expect to slow him down. Penn Pinkins made a lot of winning plays at the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. His basketball IQ was a major part of his production, as he consistently made good reads and played within the flow of the game. Pinkins took care of the basketball, moved it when needed and rarely forced plays offensively. He also contributed defensively and consistently put himself in the right spots to help his team. His ability to make the simple play and consistently make good decisions gave his team quality minutes whenever he was on the floor. Stay tuned for more from Coast 2 Coast Preps!
