High Academic Showcase Newcomers

The 2026 NorCal High Academic Showcase was held August 8-9, at Saint Ignatius College Prep, San Francisco, CA. This event was meant to shine the light on NorCal basketball players with a high GPA. 100 prospects, college coaches led skills, drills and coached the games. Here are the newcomers who stood out.    3.53 GPA. He plays under control, a willing facilitator. A good ball handling guard, has court vision, uses his body to shield the ball against defenders, twisting his way to the basket handling contact for layups. He has a good size body to handle the bumps, plays off two feet, plants, pauses, gets defenders off balance to get paint points. He'll shoot open 3's.     3.5 GPA. He had good activity around the basket, while showing he can improve his skill set along the perimeter. Standing 6'3 with good activity on both ends of the court. Mfonfu has the body and strength to expand his overall skill set. A willing passer, makes cuts to the basket can finish in traffic, shot the open 3 from the top. A good rebounder, has the foot speed to defend multiple positions.     3.9 GPA. A wiry fast player, looks to be at his best slashing and cutting to the basket, and attacking in transition. A good ball handler with speed to weave, and change his way to the basket. He hit a 3ptr, straight away, and used a one dribble to free himself. He has determination and length to be a good defender. We'll See more     3.5 GPA. He always seemed to be in the mix making plays on either end of the court. He was either pushing it up court with his dribble, making a pass up court for an assist, or on the other end finishing a transition layup. A decent ball handler with a solid body, had good drives to the basket in traffic. He's a ball mover.     2.8 GPA. He showed a versatile skill set on Saturday, active in all parts of the game, aggressively looking for his shot with ball in handle. He used his dribble to facilitate up top a times, attack from different areas, pulled up for short jumpers along the baseline, hit a wing 3ptr. He rebounds, came away dribbling at times. His length, and lateral movement helps him defend along the perimeter.     3.1 GPA. A solid body two sport athlete (Football). He's strong off the dribble from different angles, used hard dribbles from baseline to get to the basket. He's still learning how to use his strength to his advantage. At 6'1 he mixed it up inside for offensive rebounds, used his strength to go up strong in traffic. He showed range dropping a corner 3.     3.7 GPA. A hard playing guard/forward. He's undersized but has strength to defend bigger players in the post. He's an active wing, slashing and cutting after ball movement. He wont pass up an open 3-pointer in the corner, can use hard dribbles to get into the paint for jumpers, and traffic layups. He runs hard up and down the court.
