Grassroots Finale: 8th Grade Scorers

North Augusta, SC — The Grassroots Finale concluded the summer AAU schedule with 24 eighth grade teams competing in North Augusta, as Florida Vipers defeated Alabama Fusion Turbo in the championship game. After highlighting the top athletes, ball-handlers, defenders, and rebounders from the eighth grade division, our coverage continues with a look at the top scorers. The players featured below consistently found ways to generate offense, scoring off the dribble, from the perimeter, around the basket, and in transition while providing their teams with reliable production throughout the Grassroots Finale...    Juelz Guinyard was a difficult scoring assignment throughout Team USC Unleashed Premier's run to the final four at the Grassroots Finale. He produced offense in a variety of ways and never became overly reliant on one method of scoring. Guinyard could find points in different areas of the floor, which forced defenders to account for several parts of his offensive game. His scoring ability was a major factor in his team advancing deep into bracket play.     Jakobe Jackson was a skilled scorer at the Grassroots Finale who consistently found different ways to produce offensively. He could create for himself and was comfortable scoring from multiple areas of the floor. Jackson did a good job adjusting to how defenders played him rather than relying on the same move or shot. His skill and scoring versatility made him difficult to defend.     Dax Janes was a scoring threat whenever he had the basketball at the Grassroots Finale. He read how defenders were playing him and adjusted accordingly, rather than trying to manufacture the same type of look each possession. Janes knocked down jumpers when given room and was especially effective in transition, where he put pressure on defenses before they could get set. His ability to score in different situations made him a tough matchup.     Tejay Lundrigan had stretches at the Grassroots Finale where his offense came together in a hurry. He was comfortable letting his jumper go and consistently converted shots from the perimeter while also finding points at the other levels. Once Lundrigan found a rhythm, he had the confidence to continue looking for his offense without becoming hesitant. His shooting touch and ability to string together baskets made him a productive scorer.     Braeden Wright shot the ball at a high level throughout the Grassroots Finale. He was effective spotting up and converting off the catch, but his shooting ability was not limited to opportunities created for him by others. Wright could put the ball on the floor, create enough room for his release and knock down jumpers off the dribble.
