WBY Tourney in Plymouth: Howards Grove, Sturgeon Bay win titles

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Howards Grove won the Pools A/B championship and Sturgeon Bay captured the Pools C/D crown at the 19th annual Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held at Riverview Middle School in Plymouth on Friday and Saturday.<br><br>Following are some observations from the 20-team event:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Pool A Standings</strong><br>St. Mary Catholic 4-0, Kohler 3-1, Manitowoc Lincoln 2-2, Sheboygan Christian 1-3, Marinette 0-4. <br><br><strong>Pool B Standings</strong><br>Howards Grove 3-1, Lomira 3-1, Plymouth Black 2-2, Oshkosh West 1-3, Valders 1-3. <br><br><strong>Pools A/B Title Game</strong><br>Howards Grove 45, St. Mary Catholic 33. He also dropped 28 points in a victory over Valders, scoring mostly off drives to the basket, on offensive rebound putbacks and from the foul line. His experience and ability to just dominate the glass on both ends of the court were apparent in both of those contests. Damrow is coming off a season where he averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while helping Howards Grove to a 21-7 record. He is going to be a handful for any team to deal with because of his activity and relentless nature in terms of rebounding and scoring. <br><br><strong>Pools A/B Breakout Performer<br>[player_tooltip player_id='2508290' first='Luke' last='Fairweather'], 6-0, Sr., G, St. Mary Catholic</strong><br>Fairweather definitely was the sparkplug for the success St. Mary Catholic enjoyed over the weekend. The feisty, never-stop backcourt ace put extreme defensive pressure on opposing point guards from one endline to the other. He also used his quickness, elusiveness and athleticism to score with regularity off the dribble. His activity is non-stop as he looks to score off the dribble and from way out on the floor. Defensively, he is a pest on the perimeter, zooming around with quick hands and the ability to apply intense ball pressure. Ash had 28 points and seven three-point baskets for Sturgeon Bay in the title-game win over Shiocton. His three-point shot with a narrow lead with under a minute left sealed the victory for the Clippers. Ash finished the five games he played in Plymouth with 20 three-point baskets. <br><br><strong>Pools C/D Breakout Performer<br>[player_tooltip player_id='2381932' first='Kyle' last='Bergsbaken'], 6-1, Sr., G, Shiocton</strong><br>Berksbaken has a steadiness to his game that is extremely impressive. He takes and makes good shots. He has range on his jump shot, but also can swish mid-range jumpers off the dribble. And he never seems to get rattled. The physically and mentally tough wing guard was outstanding for the Chiefs while leading his team to a 4-1 record in Plymouth.
