Orlando, FL — After highlighting the top backcourt performers from the 5th Grade Division I bracket, our attention now shifts to the wings. The AAU World Championships featured 42 teams at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, giving us an opportunity to evaluate a deep group of versatile prospects who impacted games in a variety of ways. Whether it was scoring from multiple levels, defending several positions, making plays off the dribble, or providing value without the ball, the players featured below consistently influenced winning and earned recognition as the top wing standouts from the 5th Grade Division I field...

Grant Agbo, Jr. showed the ability to impact the game in multiple ways at the AAU World Championships. He was productive around the basket, finishing through traffic and converting second-chance opportunities, while also stepping out and knocking down perimeter shots to keep defenses honest. Agbo's versatility as a scorer made him difficult to match up with, and he consistently generated extra possessions by attacking the glass on both ends. His rebounding, combined with his ability to score inside and out, gave his team valuable production throughout the week.

Jahvonni Brand was a major reason behind Sniper Gang Elite's 5th Grade Division I championship run at the AAU World Championships. The versatile wing made plays from all over the floor, scoring both around the basket and from the perimeter while giving his team another reliable offensive option. Brand's explosiveness stood out when attacking the rim, and he paired it with a smooth, controlled offensive game that rarely looked rushed. His versatility and ability to produce in different areas of the floor made him one of the more impactful wings in the 5th grade division.

Zaiden Buckner played with a calm, controlled pace every time he stepped on the floor for Hoptown Hoyas at the AAU World Championships. His impact extended well beyond the box score, consistently making winning plays through his effort, positioning, and defensive activity. Buckner moved well without the ball, competed on every possession, and showed a strong understanding of how to affect the game. Offensively, he was a smooth wing scorer who got to his spots, finished efficiently, and let the game come to him rather than forcing offense.

Frederick Hays showed the versatility to comfortably play either the wing or slide to the four at the AAU World Championships. His combination of size and length created matchup problems, allowing him to shoot over smaller defenders, finish around the basket, and consistently rebound outside of his area. Hays covered ground well defensively and has the physical tools to guard multiple frontcourt and wing assignments. The blend of positional versatility, length, and developing skill set gives him considerable long-term upside as his game continues to mature.

Maurice Lightly once again looked every bit like one of the premier prospects in the Class of 2033 at the AAU World Championships. Playing for Rose City Rebels, he consistently separated himself with a rare combination of size, skill, and feel for the game. Lightly handled the ball with confidence, created offense in a variety of ways, and made difficult plays look routine. He processes the game at a level that is uncommon for his age, rarely forcing the action while consistently making the right basketball play. As his physical tools continue to develop, he has all the ingredients to remain firmly in the conversation among the top players in the class for years to come.

Stay tuned for more from Prep Hoops Next!
