2027 Guards in RVA/757 Coaches Should Check Out (Part 2)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the summer coming to an end, we decided to take a look at some of the top underrated players that college coaches should be watching for heading into the season. Here's a look at six guards in the Hampton Roads and Richmond areas that aren't getting the love that they deserve from coaches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3571292' first='Ryan' last='Bailey'] | 5'10” PG | Granby</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bailey is one of the top floor generals in Hampton Roads, and he is the type of player that makes everyone on his team better with his ability to control the game. He's got a great first step and good burst with the ball in his hands, he sees the game plays ahead and delivers passes on a dime to cutters and shooters, he scores it well off the bounce from the midrange and from deep, and he can set the tone defensively with his ability to pick up full court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Corin Buckingham | 5'8” PG | Oscar Smith</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":3651807,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/05/Wofford-Melvin.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/05/Wofford-Melvin.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3651807" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While Buckingham may not be the biggest guy on the floor, he can flat out play and is part of a very impressive Oscar Smith backcourt that will be one of the best in the state. The 5'8” guard is quick as a hiccup and shifty off the bounce, he has all sorts of crafty finishes when he gets in the paint to negate his size, he is a very good playmaker with elite vision and feel, and he can pick up and guard the length of the floor as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2571592' first='Milo' last='Boze'] | 5'10” PG | Catholic</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Boze has quietly been one of the big reasons for Catholic's success over the past few years, as he's an elite connector piece with his ability to both make plays and score the ball as well. He is a knock down shooter from deep with good range, he can get in the lane using ball screens and make plays for others, he is very good pushing in transition and finding teammates for easy looks, and he brings great energy on the defensive end too.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3275759' first='Christian' last='Lynch'] | 6'2” CG | Kempsville</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lynch was perhaps the breakout player in the Beach District and one of the more underrated ones over the past few years, as the 6'2” combo can flat out fill it up and was a big reason for their run to the state tournament. He's got a bit of an old school game to him as he is very good in the midrange with pull-ups and fall-aways, he can knock it down from deep with consistency off the catch, he's excellent in ball screens as both a scorer and distributor, and he is a very crafty finisher around the rim as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3651535' first='Horatio' last='Kinlock'] | 6'2” CG | Huguenot</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":3588970,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Kinlock-Horatio.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Kinlock-Horatio.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3588970" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kinlock had a very good junior season for a Huguenot team that was one of the surprises in the Richmond area, and this summer he followed it up with a great summer where he caught the attention of a number of college coaches. The 6'2” combo is a good athlete who can pick up the length of the floor and brings toughness on the defensive end, he can score it from multiple levels off the bounce and off the catch, he has great instincts as a playmaker with good vision and passing ability, and he can get downhill and finishes well through contact.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2470604' first='Luke' last='Bergeron'] | 5'11” PG | Benedictine</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bergeron is part of a very underrated backcourt for a Benedictine team that is on the rise, and while he isn't the biggest guy he has a lot of the intangibles that make smaller guards very effective. He oozes toughness and plays with an all-out kind of motor you can't teach, he gets to where he wants on the court and can score the ball in a lot of different ways, he can work off the ball and knock down shots, and he has the ability to make others better as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
