Fresno, CA - Last weekend, Friday, June 5th through Sunday, June 7th, Fresno State hosted its Second Annual Team Camp, which featured teams from Bakersfield to Fresno, as well as few teams from NorCal. The event featured a pool play format for the first two days and wrapped up with bracket play on Sunday. I was in attendance for Pool Play on Friday and Saturday, and was focused on games in the North Gym only, but there were also games at the Valley Athletics Facility. This article takes a look at 8 standout wings and forwards from the classes of 2027 and 2028 (rising seniors and juniors), and will be followed by a two-part series on standout guards from the Team Camp. In this article you will find the following information: players name, height, position, school, and their skill sets. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with Caleb Delong

2027 Caleb Delong (6'7 | PF) - Sanger (CA)

The 6-foot-7 power forward has a physical and athletic frame, has good bounce and size to control the paint, and showed improved touch on his shot from within 15 feet of the basket. Delong controls the boards on both ends of the court, getting put-backs and second chance scoring opportunities, limits the opponent to single shot possessions, has the timing and length to alter/block shots in the paint, outlets the ball quickly to his ball handlers to get up the court and behind the defense, and is a quality defender in the paint. Delong has made some major strides in his offensive skill set and shooting touch, as he showed enough handle to put the ball on the deck and attack from the top of the key, displayed touch on the floater down the lane, uses the spin-move to evade his defender and create space to connect on the mid-range jumper, seals off his defender in the pick and roll action opens himself up to receive passes on the dive, and has nice touch on finishes around the basket. Delong displayed his bounce with several power dunks and is looking to establish Sanger with one of the bigger front-lines in the Section.

2027 Jake Gartner (6'6 | WF) - Sanger (CA)

The 6-foot-6 wing/forward is a good slasher off the ball, runs the floor well, makes good decisions with the ball in the post, and will give the Apache's a solid one-two punch in the post. Gartner crashes the boards on both ends, has good touch on put-backs off the offensive glass, gets the ball out to his guards to run the floor, and alters shots in the paint, as well as the ability to step out and contest perimeter shots. Gartner has good court vision to find open teammates up the court off the glass, as well as to diver out of the pick and roll action, from the top of the key to players cutting off the ball, and good reads in tight windows in the high-low action. Gartner has good footwork and body control in the paint, uses the spin-move and drop-step to get space from his defender, and has good touch on the hook floater and mid-post face-up jumper.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='3269168' first='Grant' last='Hyde'] (6'4 | WF) - Central Valley Christian (Visalia CA)

The 6-foot-4 wing/forward can operate in the post, has the moves to create shots from the perimeter, and can space the floor from beyond the arc. Hyde has solid handles, keeps the dribble alive to survey the defense, the court vision to make good reads to open players off the drive and kick pass, from the top of the key to cutting teammates, and up the court off the glass to get the transition offense flowing. Hyde has shifty moves to create off the wing, using the crossover, between-cross, spin-move, and hesitation to create space from his defender, gets good lift with accuracy on the jumper from the mid-range area, is a creative scorer around the basket, with the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups to evade shot-blockers, good back to the basket moves, using the spin-move, shoulder fake, and drop-step to get the angle and space needed to score amongst taller players with nice touch on shots around the basket. Hyde moves fluid off the ball, gets to his shot spots, is effective with the 3-ball off the catch to pull his defender away from the basket, is active on the boards, and is a versatile defender that has the length to hold up against bigger players, and the lateral footwork and active hands to disrupt smaller players on the perimeter. Big senior campaign on deck and Hyde is looking to help lead his team back to the Section title game.

2028 Joshua Jenkins (6'4 | WF) - Hanford (CA)

The 6-foot-4 wing/forward has good size and skill, makes plays for others, is active on the boards, and is a versatile defender. Jenkins has good interior footwork, the moves to score in the paint, using the spin-move, up-and-under, and the shoulder fake into the drop-step to separate from his defender, with nice touch on shots around the basket. Jenkins has great rebounding fundamentals, seals off his opponent and goes after the ball, controls the glass on both ends, gets points off put-backs, and makes nice reads up the court off the glass to open teammates. Jenkins has enough handle to attack from the top of the key, the physical build to score through contact down the lane, and good body control on the spin-move into the middy using angles and the glass for the bank shot. Jenkins will be called upon to have a bigger scoring role this coming season, and will have to adapt to being more of a bucket getter, which he is very capable of doing.

2028 Ezra Jordan (6'5 | WF) - Bullard (Fresno CA)

The 6-foot-5 forward has great length and on-court movement, plays well off the ball to find openings in the defense, and is active on the glass. The Knights have a young, lengthy, and athletic squad heading into next season, and Jordan had a solid showing on Day 2 of the Fresno State Team Camp. Jordan crashes the boards on both ends, alters shots in the paint, outlets the ball quickly, and runs the floor well to get ahead of the defense for transition buckets. Jordan moves fluid off the ball, finds openings in the dunker spot or the top of the restricted area to be the recipient of passes from guards attacking the basket, and is effective on the dive out of the pick and roll action. Intriguing prospect with the frame that is ideal in modern hoops, and if he develops more perimeter skill and a consistent jump shot, he could make a jump up the 2028 class.

2028 Dominic Olanrewaju (6'6 | WF) - San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno CA) - featured in picture

The 6-foot-6 wing/forward is a lengthy and athletic player that can score from 3-levels, is a versatile defender that can guard the 1 through 5 if needed, and can space the floor from beyond the arc. Olanrewaju had a strong outing at the Fresno State Team Camp, and showed he is ready to take the next step as a primary scorer for the defending D2 State Champs this Summer and coming season. Olanrewaju has solid handles, uses the crossover, spin-move, hesitation, wrap-behind, and between-cross to create space from his defender, has good body control and accuracy on the jumper, from the mid-range jumper to the 3-point line off the dribble, and is a creative scorer around the basket, using the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups, as well as the strength to score through contact driving to the basket. Olanrewaju moves well off the ball, gets to his shot spots, is efficient with the 3-ball off the catch to open up the floor, has good court vision and precise passing to find players up the court off the glass, from the high-post to teammates cutting off the ball, or from the low-block to teammates cutting down the lane or popping out to the perimeter, and the moves to score in the post, using the back to the basket spin-move or shoulder fake into the drop-step to get space for shots around the basket. Defensively, Olanrewaju has the length and height to hold up against taller players in the paint, the lateral footspeed and active hands to stay in front of perimeter players, with the timing and quick movement to alter shots in the paint and the wing, deflect passes, or jump passing lanes, where he showed improved bounce with a half a dozen high-flying dunks. Olanrewaju has had a solid Spring on the 3SSB Circuit and is looking to get college coaches interested at the June Scholastic Live events, as well as in July with Lakeshow 3SSB 16s.

2027 Jacob Wheeler (6'4 | WF) - Redwood (Visalia CA)

The 6-foot-4 wing/forward can space the floor from beyond the arc, is active on the boards, and showed improved bounce and on-court quickness. Wheeler crashes the boards on both ends, has good touch on put-backs off the glass, outlets the ball quickly off the defensive rebound to get ahead in transition, has solid post-moves to score in the paint, using the spin-move or shoulder fake into the drop-step to get space from his defender, and has a good face-up mid-post jumper. Wheeler seals off his opponent in the pick and roll action, dives to the basket with good hands to catch and finish at the cup, with the physical build to score thorough contact at the rim, and can open the floor with the 3-ball off the catch. Wheeler had a few dunks in the open court to show more bounce going into his senior season.

2027 Josiah Williams (6'4 | WF) - Hoover (Fresno CA)

The 6-foot-4 wing/forward is a serviceable rim protector, excels in the open court, and is relentless on the glass. Williams had one of the more impressive weekends at the Fresno State Team Camp for a player I had no knowledge of prior to last weekend. Williams has good length and size to hold down the paint, impacts the boards on the offensive glass to get points off the put-back, limits opponents to single shot possessions, has the timing and awareness to block shots in the post, as well as the chase down block in the open court, has good court vision to pass out of the post, finding players on the perimeter or cutting off the ball, and has the strength score the ball through contact when attacking from the high-post. Williams was effective with the mid-post face-up jumper and has good body control to absorb contact.
