Varsity minutes for freshman can be hard to come by, but doors tend to open up by sophomore year. Especially for those guys that have the tools necessary to compete. Here are a few that come to mind:

Tony is arguably the most explosive athlete in his class in the entire state. He has noticeably toned up since the start of last school ball season and should be in a significant position to contribute for Manual in the near future. He's dangerous in the opponent court and finishes strong through contact. Already a high-level defender and rebounder, Tony could be on the cusp of the sophomore leap if his playmaking and ability to knock down open shots continue to evolve.

Boyd County will be tasked with replacing nearly 80% of its offense next season due to graduation which opens the door for rising talent like Edmondson. He's a crafty scorer who can knock down shots from anywhere on the court. His shooting numbers from last season weren't noteworthy but those should improve with increased usage for the southpaw sniper. He could make his mark on the 16th region as early as next season if he proves capable of handling the physicality of varsity hoops.

Tre will be a huge piece for the Purples next season. He has a limitless motor that allows him to stay in constant attack mode on both ends of the court. He shoots the ball with accuracy from long distance and in the midrange. He also has a high-level understanding of the game and is more than capable of running the offense at the varsity level. Expect Tre to have some huge game as he closes the summer with Kentucky Basketball Club Pro16 and heading into his sophomore campaign.

Attending Louisville Butler, the Bears are very familiar with the Barjolo name. Thanks to graduation, they'll need to replace a ton of production on both ends of the court, a lot of which came from Kendrick's elder brother. Luckily, Kendrick is an advanced scorer and defender for his age. His confidence is through the roof as is his ability to create space off the dribble. With his athleticism and shot making, Kendrick could find himself in a position to contribute early next season.

Lucas quietly had one of the best freshman years in the state last season, averaging just about 13pt, 10reb double-double for the Jaguars. He's unselfish team player who isn't afraid to do the nitty gritty needed to win. A force in the paint, he's efficient in pick-and-roll situations and uses his size well to get to his spot and finish through contact. Lucas should also return as the most capable above-the-rim option. Surely one of Eastern Kentucky's best kept secrets.
