College Commitment – Dayton Jenkins (2026 Westview)
After looking at a number of options at different levels, Dayton Jenkins had things whittled down to two - Western Oregon and Carroll College in Montana. So the athletic 6-foot-3 guard did what he was supposed to do - take visits to both college campuses and come up with a decision. And when the Westview graduate sorted everything out, the choice was to stay in-state and commit to Western Oregon.
"Ever since I went to their camp I kind of just felt like a connection with the program and the coaches there, so the coaches really helped me pick the school because of that connection," Jenkins said. "I also could tell from the first year the kind of program they were trying to build and that's something I could get behind. The other biggest factor was it was so much closer to stay around my family then if I went to Carroll."
Western Oregon head coach Ryan Orton has made an intentional decision to recruit in-state and much of that mentality helped secure Jenkins' pledge. The opportunity to contribute from the start with the Wolves was another factor in Jenkins' choice.
"As a freshman I see my rebounding and defensive versatility making the biggest impact for me along with my motor," Jenkins said. "To be honest my role may not be the biggest my first year as I have some things I want to work on to be able to play to where I want to be. So the biggest things imma work on is my weight and muscle then getting my 3pt shooting more consistent."
Westview will hold a signing ceremony on Tuesday for their seniors going on to play basketball and Jenkins will make it all official. It's been a fun ride as a Wildcat with memories he'll always remember. "Definitely getting to Chiles and playing in that environment then also winning league that year," Jenkins said. "But my last year all together as the bond I had with the team that year was different then my junior year."
Our congratulations go out to Jenkins and his family on his commitment.
