We recently updated our 2027 class rankings in Virginia, with it being one of the deepest rankings I have been apart of in my 10 years with the Prep Hoops VA site. We will take a look at some of the top players in each region of the state from a positional standpoint, starting with the top 10 guards in the Hampton Roads area.

#27) Donnell Jarrett Jr. | 6'2” CG | Woodside

Jarrett has been the go-to guy at Woodside for the past couple of seasons, and he's one of the top scoring guards you'll come across in the entire 757 if not the state. The 6'2” combo is a talented shot maker who can drill it from deep off the catch with good range, he gets to his spots easily and has excellent footwork getting into his pull-up, he is a strong finisher through traffic when he gets downhill, and he is no slouch on the defensive end either.

#47) MJ Montague | 6'2” CG | Woodside

Montague is Jarrett's running mate at Woodside, and there's not doubt the way they've been playing this summer that they won't be one of if not the best backcourts in the 757 during their senior season. Montague is an all-around guard who can fill it up in bunches working both on and off the ball, he's able to score it from all three levels with ease, he has great instincts defensively guarding the ball and jumping passing lanes, and he is an unselfish playmaker as well.

#51) Kevin Parker | 5'11” CG | Denbigh

Parker is a two sport star who also shines on the football field, and he's part of the other top backcourt on the Peninsula and is the biggest reason for Denbigh's massive turn around over the past few years. The 5'11” guard is a walking bucket who is quick and shifty off the bounce with the ability to stop on a dime and get into his shot, he can get downhill and is a crafty finisher at the rim, he's a big time athlete who flies in transition and puts pressure on the defense, and he makes winning plays on both ends of the floor too.

#63) Chase Johnson | 6'0” PG | Landstown

Johnson had a big junior season for Landstown helping them to a Class 6 State Championship appearance, and he's having a great summer which bolds well for him as he'll be their primary ball handler and playmaker next year. The 6'0” lead guard has a strong frame and can bring physicality on both ends of the floor, he gets downhill and finishes well around the rim, he can make shots from multiple levels, and he has great vision and makes others better with his passes too.

#70) Callen Morrison | 5'9” PG | Denbigh

Morrison is one of the best throw back type of floor generals that you will come across in the state, as he may not be the biggest guy on the floor but he makes a massive impact on both ends. He sets the tone defensively with his ability to pick up 94 feet and get under ball handlers to make them uncomfortable, he is compact and strong allowing him to get downhill and take bumps and finish over bigger defenders, he can knock down open shots and scores it efficiently, and he has great feel and a high IQ as a playmaker too.

#72) Quimar Crittendon | 6'1” PG | Portsmouth Christian

Crittendon is one of the more talented guards you will come across in the 757, as he's got all the tools as a dual threat guard who can impact with both his scoring and distributing at the lead guard position. He is dynamic and shifty off the bounce with the ability to break down and blow by defenders, he's an athletic and crafty finisher when he gets to the rim, he makes tough shots from multiple levels, and when he locks in he has the ability to takeover a game at any point.

#76) Tabren Hawkins | 6'1” CG | Catholic

Hawkins has been a standout from day one when he was at Maury and last season at Catholic, and he's emerging as one of the more consistent guards in the 757 throughout that time. He's a strong and physical guard who can take contact when handling pressure and when he gets downhill, he can move off the ball and shoots it well from deep, he is unselfish and makes plays for others, and he's willing to do the little things to help his team win as well.

#91) Quinton Cruse | 6'0” CG | Nansemond River

Cruse had a big junior season at Nansemond River and is gearing up to be one of the best guards in the 757 his senior year, as he has the ability to impact the game in a lot of different ways with the ball in his hands. He gets downhill aggressively and finishes well in traffic, he can push in transition and use his speed to make plays for himself and others, he is a good rebounder for his size, and his aggressive nature allows him to turn defense into easy offense as well.

#110) Christian Lynch | 6'3” CG | Kempsville

Lynch was Kempsville's top player this past season when they made a surprise run to the Class 5 state tournament, and he's got an old school type of game that a basketball purist will love to watch. He is a walking bucket who plays at his own pace and does a great job using fakes and counters to create space to get his shot off, he's a crafty finisher around the rim with great footwork, he is an assassin in the midrange with the ability to knock it down from deep as well, and he has great instincts on both ends of the floor too.

#118) Kelley King Jr. | 5'10” PG | Oscar Smith

King is part of perhaps the deepest backcourt in the 757 at Oscar Smith where they were one of the top teams in the 757 this past season, and he's one of the more talented and well rounded guards you will come across. He's dynamic off the bounce with a quick first step and the ability to change speeds and directions with the best of them, he can create space and knock down shots from all three levels, he can move off the ball and works well to get open, and he can get hot and fill it up in bunches when he gets it going.
