Southwest Summer League Standouts 5/19/26

On Tuesday may 19th I was able to attend the Southwest Summer League hosted by Maryvale and La Joya High School. I attended the Maryvale location and was able to view four Games and see each team twice.   The summer league runs every Tuesday till the end of June. The League contains mostly west valley teams with some solid talent. Daniel was able to run the offense and setup others or score and create for himself. He often had the ball in his hand and was able to handle defensive pressure. He would attack defenders hips and get to the lane to create contact. He has a nice hop step through the lane and can even score with his off hand. He would use a slow step on the fast break causing the defender to fly by and finish with an And-1. He would often bump defenders and even had a sweet bump and step back three.     Kiza is a quick and shifty guard with some flash to his game. The young guard impressed me with his play out of the pick and roll. He was able to thread the needle in tight coverage to the roll man for a easy finish or attack downhill and finish with finesse around the rim. He was a problem in transition and was able to score most of his points in the open floor. He ran the offense well and was able move players around to get the spacing he needed.     Logan is a High IQ player with a textbook Jumper from deep. He was able to handle ball pressure and get defenders off of him with out being flustered. He doesn't turn the ball over and makes great decisions overall. He throws a nice pocket pass out the pick and roll and is a very unselfish player. He is a knockdown shooter from deep and even had a pull up jumper in the face of the defense. Defensively he has a great stance and tends to get deflections and steals with his ability to read the passing lanes.     Elijah is a athletic guard with some major upside. He uses his athletic ability to get by defenders and finish above the rim. He can hit the three but wont settle and often gets paint touches causing the defense to collapse. He runs lanes well on the break and is a lob threat. He has tools to be a great defender with his length and will rack up steals with his speed and ability to read passing lanes. He isn't scared to challenge players at the rim and got three blocks when I seen him play.     Keith is another great athletic wing with big time upside. He was able to get to the lane and put constant pressure on the rim. He seems to make highlight plays every time I see him play. He had a nasty poster slam down the lane setting the tone for his team. He is a big threat in the open court and can take the ball coast to coast off a rebound. He has real potential and I expect him to be a key player for Maryvale's success.     Elie is a quick and shifty guard that has a knack for scoring. He was one of the primary ball handlers but proved he can also play off ball. He would get by defenders with a his tight handle quick first step. He would often create contact at the the bucket and not shy away. He has a nice looking shot from the outside and will spot up in open windows. Defensively he has nice hands and will poke the ball away from ball handlers.
