MYT "Indiana Super Regionals" Top Performers 16-17u

These were the Super players who performed at the Indiana Super Regionals!    Cordell continues to be an aggressive scoring guard. He excels at breaking down defenses and attacking the paint. This led to a variety of finishes around the basket. Cordell was most effective when he scored on acrobatic lay-ups and floaters. The last time I saw him play was during the high school basketball season. In that game he was more of a facilitator. He showed those same skills on Saturday. The majority of his assists ended with his teammates scoring in the paint or during fast-breaks. Cordell is an excellent ball handler who found ways to knock down short perimeter jump-shots. His hesitation dribbling skills freed himself for clean looks at the basket. Defensively, he aggressively pressed opposing guards into mistakes. His quick hands forced three steals throughout the duration of the game. Cordell is a great combo guard who's capable of playing as both scorer and facilitator. I expect him to have an excellent junior season in high school next year.     Brody came out shooting Saturday afternoon! He's an excellent scorer who is capable of doing it in a variety of ways. Whether it's handling the ball, dishing out assists, getting to the basket or knocking down threes, Brody was a match-up issue for the Tier 10 defense. He excelled at finding ways to get open. Brody used teammate screens and dribbling moves to create the space he needed. There were a couple of clutch moments in the game for Brody. During the last five minutes, he was able to attack the basket and draw a foul through contact. This led to a three-point play conversion from the foul-line. He also knocked down a big-time three to bring his team closer. Brody showed the ability to be a clutch player when it mattered most. If he continues to play with this type of confidence, he could have a special year at Perry Meridian next season.     I appreciated the tenacious style of play he demonstrated Saturday afternoon. Darrian was great on offense and defense. Offensively, he was in constant “attack mode” throughout the game. He kept constant pressure on the Tier 10 defense. Darrian is a physical guard who's capable of scoring at will. He easily went around defenders and scored in the paint. His acrobatics around the rim were hard to stop. He's an excellent finisher who often drew fouls and converted three-point plays at the foul-line. Darrian is also a capable shooter. He knocked down multiple threes off the dribble and converted a host of mid-range shots while being tightly guarded. In my opinion, Darrian was the best player on the court. He played hard on both ends of the floor by making all the hustle plays. Defensively, he was great on the ball. His quick hands and great footwork allowed him to generate four steals in the game. I believe Darrian has the mindset to be the best version of himself in the coming years. Keep hooping Darrian!!     Kaden has a nice shooting touch from the outside. He knocked down numerous shots from the mid-range area of the floor. Kaden also showed the ability to play big in the paint. He used a variety of effective post moves around the basket. Some scores led to three-point play conversions from the foul-line. Kaden is a great rebounder who excelled at both ends of the court. A majority of offensive boards he grabbed, ended with easy put-backs near the rim. Some of the defensive rebounds were transition starters for Tier 10. The outlet passes he threw always seemed to be on the money. Kaden also extends his shooting range beyond the three-point line. He calmly knocked down three in Saturday afternoon's game. Defensively, he used his size to protect the paint and make scoring difficult for the opposition. Kaden blocked shots and provided Tier 10 with a physical presence.      Jett has improved as a shooter since I last saw him play in middle school. He excels at finding ways to free himself for clean looks at the basket. On multiple occasions, he created the space he needed to accurately knock down shots. Whether it was going around screens or creating off the dribble, Jett was a tough cover for the Hoop Dreams 2028 Black defense. He's an excellent mid-range shooter whose capable of extending his shooting skills beyond the three-point line. In some instances, Jett attacked the basket and scored floaters in the paint. He's also a great passer who had no problems finding the open man with pin-point assists. A majority of the plays he made turned out positive for Tier 10. Jett was a serious problem for the opposition. He finished the game with four conversions from beyond the three-point line. Jett is a talented shooter and scorer. I expect him to play a major role in the success of Owen Valley's basketball season next fall.     The first impression I made of Brayden was one of a player who wasn't afraid to shoot. Whether it was knocking down mid-range shots, getting to the basket or converting threes, Brayden never hesitated to get his shot off. In Saturday's game against Hoop Dreams 2028 Black, he grabbed rebounds, scored on put-backs and gave maximum effort on defense. Brayden was able to knock down multiple threes from the wings. This came after running through screens his teammates set to free him up. He also showed the ability to rebound and assist teammates with accurate passes. Defensively, he forced multiple turnovers by jumping the pass lanes. He's a good all around player who will only get better with time, growth and maturity. Keep working Brayden!!
