College Commitment – Roman Perry (2026 Lake Oswego)

College choices can be tough. And in the case of those that have played high school basketball, there are those who straddle the fence between attempting to play at the college level or simply move on from balling and be a regular student. For Roman Perry that was the challenge, but when an opportunity came for him to continue his playing career on the East Coast the tough 6-foot-2 senior decided he'd give it a shot - and recently made a commitment to attend and hoop at Pratt Institute.

"Well the first thing that intrigued me about Pratt was the location with it being in Brooklyn and also at the same college my brother goes to which is what gave me the idea to pursue basketball there," Perry said. "After talking to my parents and friends it all seemed like an opportunity I just couldn't let go so I decided to commit. With going there I was definitely pursuing the basketball there because without it I think I would take some time to get comfortable in that community but with a sibling and a team to start with I thought that would be a lot of help. Originally I was considering Oregon but decided otherwise when the opportunity to play basketball across the country came up."

Perry dived into more how he felt a fit at Pratt. "The school is mostly considered an art school but sits in one of the most diverse areas of New York so although I don't have much of a passion for art there are still many other things I can do," Perry said. "In terms of basketball there they are a solid team with a lot of potential especially from the underclassmen and I want to be apart of that, they also have wonderful facilities and a very accessible court. I visited at the end of April and was able to meet the coaches and players and felt like I could just see myself fitting in socially and also into the rotation which was a big thing for me."

A rugged forward who took on all challengers even when he may have been outsized, Perry averaged 4.9 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting a robust 57 percent from the field. While his shooting percentage was high, he only attempted two three-pointers all season and he knows that will need to change at the college level when it comes to what parts of his game he wants to work on.

"I'd definitely say shooting is the main thing and just getting more confidence in my shot especially from 3," Perry said. "The other things I want to improve on is my handle and perimeter defense, I think improving my handle will open up the game for me a lot more and create a lot of scoring opportunities and I think getting better on the defensive end of the ball and being a guy that my coach can trust to do that is the best way for me to fit in the rotation early."
