The start of the 2026-27 New Mexico high school basketball season is still six months away, but it's never too early to take a look at some of the key players. Here are five players you need to know in Class 3A:

[player_tooltip player_id='2833741' first='CJ' last='Granados'], Dexter: Granados is one of the top small school multi-sport athletes in the state. Besides being the quarterback for the Demons football team, Granados finished last season as Class 3A's top scorer, averaging 22.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Granados has good size (6-foot-3) and incredible athleticism. Dexter (12-13) should be much improved in 2026-27.

[player_tooltip player_id='2714599' first='Izon' last='Guck'], Cobre: The top sophomore (2028) scorer in Class 3A last season with an average of 19.0 points per game + 8.4 rebounds per game Guck combined with older brother Zavin to lead Cobre to 25 wins and a quarterfinal appearance in the 3A state tournament. Zavin has graduated, so it will be up to Izon to carry the torch in 2026-27. The guess here is Izon is more than up to the task.

[player_tooltip player_id='2216708' first='Michael' last='Marr'], Robertson: Marr is arguably the most dynamic and entertaining player in Class 3A. His buzzer-beater to stun St. Michael's late in the season was one of the shots of the year. Marr averaged over 21 points and 3 assists per game last season. Marr and 6-foot-5 [player_tooltip player_id='2216707' first='Nathan' last='Gonzales'] will form one of the top G-F duos in 3A next season. Sixth straight trip to the 3A championship game for Robertson? I wouldn't bet against it.

[player_tooltip player_id='2216957' first='Vicente' last='Ortiz'], East Mountain: The Timberwolves' remarkable 2025-26 season (25-4 record) may have had a disappointing conclusion with a first-round tournament loss to Robertson, but they certainly raised eyebrows. Ortiz was East Mountain's leading scorer with an average of over 20 points per game. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range. The Timberwolves return their top three scorers next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2309741' first='Josiah' last='Wilson'], Bosque: Not only is Willson one of the best (and most under- appreciated) players in the Albuquerque Metro Region, he may just be one of the best all-around players. His 2025-26 season was impressive from a statistical standpoint: 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game. He scores, he shoots the ball well (56 percent on 2-pointers), he dominates the glass, he distributes the ball smartly and he plays tremendous defense with quick hands and feet. Surpassed 1,000 career points.
