Buckeye State Bash – New Young Guards Who Shined The Brightest

Prep Hoops covered the 2026 Buckeye State Bash Sunday May 10th at Westland High School. There was great talent all throughout Westland High School on Sunday morning and afternoon. Today, I will introduce five new guards who really stood out to me at this event on Mother's Day!!    Johnson was one of the most elite defensive guards I saw the whole weekend at Westland. He really buys in on that end of the floor sitting down in a stance and pressuring the ball the entire length of the floor! Moves his feet very well for his age! [player_tooltip player_id='2990912' first='David' last='Johnson'] is also a stellar rebound and run guard who loves to get out and score in transition. Very quick twitch guard with the ability to get down hill and convert through contact at the rim! I was most impressed with the chemistry he showed with his teammates throughout the weekend. He's an excellent teammate and leader for his age. He made a number of contested three-pointers throughout the day at Westland. He is a very quick twitch guard who can handle the ball well versus pressure and moves very fluidly for his young age. I was very impressed with the defensive pressure that he put on the ball handlers making it difficult for them to bring it up. Jordan Taylor might be small but his game is big!     A pure scoring machine! Green brings a lot of toughness and shot making to the offensive end! He was the leading scorer for his team as he battled well finishing through contact at the basket. I was impressed with his ability to bring the ball up the floor and handle pressure from the defense. Maurelius Green is a young point guard with a boat load of potential both as a floor general and as a scorer! It will be exciting to continue following this young guards game as he competes at the middle school level with a high ceiling for his high school career!     Defensive pressure and versatility was on display with Norbo's game on Mother's Day! He already has solid height and strength for a combo guard and the ability to make difficult shots. I was impressed with his ability to use his size to his advantage on drives and defensively cutting off the opponent drives to the rim. High motor and plays well with his teammates! Luke Norbo provides a lot of strong intangibles that help make a difference for his team!     Morrow is a fun player to watch compete on both ends of the floor! He plays with a high motor and gets the best out of his teammates. Christian understands how to create his own shot as well as set up others for great offensive looks. He is a capable ball handler and showed throughout his games that he can handle pressure that the defensive applies. Morrow showed improvement on him jump shot throughout the event and showed consistent confidence to let it fly when he was open. There was a lot to like about this young guard's game!
