Lonestar State Showdown: 16U And 17U Early Impressers

The Lonestar State Showcase was Texas's premier event this year that attracted teams from various states. Prep Hoops successfully brought in talented players, some of whom other scouts discovered throughout the weekend. Early on Saturday, while evaluating players, I identified five standout individuals who set the tone for the rest of the weekend.    Tyler Spraggins is the starting guard for Barber Society Tarheels 16U. He is ranked in Louisiana getting off to a great start in the game against BAM Elite 16U on Saturday. He hit his first three three-point shots, showcasing his shooting ability. Throughout the game, he continued to make multiple three-pointers as he demonstrated his consistency scoring. Beyond his shooting, Tyler displayed his driving ability. He frequently finished layups with his right hand, adding to his point total. Additionally, he contributed to the team's rebounding efforts by crashing on both ends of the floor. Overall, Tyler Spraggins was one of the standout players on the court, making a significant impact in the game.     Braxton Schuckman was a floor spacer for BAM Elite 16U in his game against Barber Society Tarheels 16U. Offensively, I was impressed with his play in pick-and-roll actions as he rolled hard to the basket, which resulted in many layups for him. When getting the ball on the perimeter, he was able to find cutting teammates with quick passes and drive to the basket. At times, he would find himself open on the perimeter to knock down standing three-pointers. Defensively, Braxton contested many shots coming in the paint and outside of it. With his contests, Braxton blocked multiple shots throughout the game.     Tyshawn Harris out of BAM Elite 16U was a standout play finisher around the rim the entire game. Through these play finishes, he was able to finish with contact. Offensively, Tyshawn was able to get many easy layups in the paint due to his off-ball movement in the half-court and transition. In screen and roll actions, he was able to find open his teammate Braxton on multiple occasions. Tyshawn was comfortable bringing the ball up the court to set the offense at times as well. Defensively, he was active in rotations, committing to help side and having a strong presence in the paint.     Jayden Johnson for Team Phoenix P32 Black 17U played a huge role as a physical presence on the interior against Tony Bradley Elite 17U. In the interior, he skies for multiple rebounds strongly on both ends of the court, as it was hard to keep him off the glass for the opposing team. When scoring, Jayden was able to convert many easy points around the basket. As he is on the way to score in the interior, he uses his body well to create separation between him and his defenders. Throughout my evaluation of his game, Jayden played well for his team as made a huge contribution to the interior.     Syrus Sinfort is a guard from Tony Bradley Elite 17U that possesses a nice mid-range jumper that he likes to pull up in, especially on the elbows. In the open floor, he likes to get downhill before the defense sets as he was very successful in that aspect throughout his game against Team Phoenix P32 Black 17U. Syrus will rebound the ball defensively to turn stops into being active in transition as he looks for teammates or gets his own points through three-pointers by stopping on a dime. As the primary guard, he had a good handle of the basketball when initiating the offense.
