This edition of GASO Houston coverage will introduce us to high school guards who caught my attention this weekend at the MI3 Center. The slate of games was active and entertaining as several contests came down to last second rallies and buzzer beaters as well as crunch time situations. Let's examine the skillsets of some guards who stood out to me during Saturday afternoon in the 15-17u age groups.

Marcus consistently knows how to be a dual threat playmaker and bucket getter for One Time Legends 16u. Epps consistently gets past defenders to his spot and drives to the basket at will. He distributed the ball well and had several tough layups through contact, cashing in on and-one opportunities at the free throw line. Marcus operates well in the P&R scenarios as the ballhandler and has great court vision with the ball in his hands. A high-level 2028 stock riser from Klein Oak, it is easy to see why he is relied on in the clutch as a lead floor general.

Manu put on a showcase from deep range in TJ Ford's win over Be Someone Elite 15u. The 2029 guard out of Atascocita shows exceptional three-point marksmanship and can either be a sniper from catch and shoot or off the dribble. When he is not knocking down shots from deep, Salanoa affects the game in other ways by dishing dimes to open teammates or driving to the basket and going to the foul stripe. He helps to handle the ball under full court pressure and shows high IQ in crunch time.

Tristan showed why he can be counted on as a playmaking point guard for BTS Torres in their Saturday victory over Team Imperial. Torres displays a variety of dribble moves with the ball in his hands and quickly as well as effectively keeps the ball moving on offensive possessions. He has good peripheral vision and wherewithal to look for teammates in their hot spots, and he showed ability to get hot in a hurry from deep when his squad needs buckets. His jumpshot is smooth and he has good rotation on the ball when he lets it go from deep. Look for him to have a stock rising summer as a clutch point guard and playmaker.

Maddox was a mulit-tool player in TJ Ford's win on Saturday and displayed that he can affect the game in more ways than one. He helped to get second chance rebounds and score efficiently in the paint. Hailing from the Kinkaid School, Maddox has been one of the major 2027 stock risers coming out of Houston this year and he projects to carry this momentum into the summer. Davis is a versatile 3 level scorer who gets to his spots, can knock down jumpers with poise and defend any position with physicality and aggressiveness.
