Friday at the Northeast Jr. EYBL Session 1 in Philadelphia brought a strong opening day filled with high-level competition, energy, and early statements from some of the region's top young prospects. With teams looking to establish momentum, several players stepped up with impactful performances on both ends of the floor, showing not only skill, but toughness, IQ, and the ability to produce in key moments. Below is a closer look at some of the top performers who stood out and helped lead their teams from start to finish. Team Tobias 2031 | Aden Romeo | #1 Aden Romeo showcased himself as a dynamic scorer who consistently put pressure on the defense. He attacked downhill with purpose while also creating space to knock down tough, contested shots. Romeo's defensive presence stood out as well, playing with a hard-nosed mentality and staying active in the passing lanes to generate steals and easy opportunities. His basketball IQ was evident throughout, as he controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, making the right reads and understanding when to attack versus when to keep his teammates involved. 2031 | Bryson Woodward | #5 Bryson Woodward brought an aggressive, physical approach that made a consistent impact. The slashing forward scored efficiently around the basket, finishing through contact and creating multiple three-point play opportunities. Defensively, he protected the paint with toughness and effort, using his physicality to challenge everything inside. Off the ball, Woodward stayed active, constantly finding openings as the offense moved. His ability to create from the wing and attack downhill added another layer to his offensive versatility. NY Lightning Black 2031 | William Gainey | #1 William Gainey controlled the game with his ability to get downhill and pressure opposing defenses. The strong, attacking point guard displayed a well-rounded scoring package, finishing creatively at the rim while also knocking down pull-up midrange shots with confidence. Defensively, he stayed active in the passing lanes, generating turnovers and transition chances, while also competing at a high level on the ball to make opposing guards uncomfortable. Lightning Black 2030 | Freddy Bopanzi | #34 Freddy Bopanzi was a dominant force in the paint, using his 6'11 frame to control the interior on both ends. He rebounded the ball with ease, consistently securing both offensive and defensive boards, and finished efficiently around the rim. What separated him was his ability to make smart decisions, including timely kick-out passes that kept the offense flowing. Defensively, his presence alone altered the game, deterring opponents from attacking the basket and anchoring the paint. 2030 | Marquez Iverson | #0 Marquez Iverson impressed with his ability to stretch the floor and score at all three levels. He knocked down big three-pointers with confidence, forcing defenses to respect his shooting ability. From there, he mixed in a crafty stop-and-go game, attacking downhill and keeping defenders off balance. Iverson also showed strong vision, making smart interior passes when the defense collapsed, adding value as both a scorer and playmaker. Team Final Red 2030 | Ki'Yonte Barnes | #6 Ki'Yonte Barnes delivered a strong two-way performance, highlighted by his shooting ability. He knocked down multiple three-pointers both off the catch and off the dribble, stretching the defense and creating space for his team. On the defensive end, Barnes was disruptive, contesting shots in the paint and making it difficult for opponents to score in transition. His ability to impact the game on both ends made him a key contributor throughout the day. Takeaway Friday's action in Philadelphia set the tone for what looks to be a highly competitive Northeast Jr. EYBL Session. From dynamic guards controlling tempo to dominant bigs protecting the paint, the talent on display was evident across the board. These standout performers not only produced, but did so in ways that directly impacted winning—an early indicator of players who will continue to rise as the session progresses.
