AOG Cactus Classic Standouts Part Two

This article will feature standouts from Southern Arizona who participated and showed out in the Attitude of Gratitude Cactus Classic that was held in Phoenix, Arizona.    Noble had a great showing over the weekend for Team RHJ. A guard with good size and a lengthy wingspan showed off a high percentage three point shot off the pass over the two day event. Has a good handle and made great passes. Hustles hard in transition and had a couple chase down blocks. Has good on ball defense and makes good reads off the ball. Came up with numerous steals. Will make a couple dribble moves from the perimeter and finish inside with a middy.     An athletic wing who can cut baseline and catch a pass into a one step contested dunk and score it. Spaces the floor out very well with his three point shot that he scored off of well over the weekend. Hustles and is strong in the paint accounting for rebounds and second chance scoring opportunities. Beck showed good athleticism and discipline as a defender and shot blocker. Showed the speed, strength and skill to guard 1-5, guarding forwards upwards of 6'9 well. A high academic athlete who can compete and impact at a high level.     I was able to catch Martin play against a bigger, stronger looking team in Team Rampage (CA) and Martin absolutely shined. He was able to score at will scoring 10 of his 14 field goal attempts including 3/5 from the perimeter accounting for 24 points. He was unphased by his opponents size out rebounding them finishing the game with 14 rebounds. In his second game Martin showed off his athleticism driving baseline and finishing the contested dunk over his defender that got the gym loud. Impacts the game regardless of who the opponent is. A three level scorer who showed tremendous hustle from the tip-off till the final buzzer.     Hernandez is a scrappy guard who plays with a chip on his shoulder. Non stop hustle and plays with high energy. Opponents struggled to guard Hernandez due to his speed and skill which enabled him to blow past defenders and score the layup, but also his ability to shoot the deep three. Knocking down a few per game from beyond NBA range. A shooter with a quick trigger who shot with great confidence. One of the top and consistent shooters overall at the event. Defensively he was just as impactful forcing turnovers and accounting for steals.     Got a look at White playing up an age division this weekend and he did not disappoint. White dictated the level of physicality against older opponents and made play after play. He showed solid strength in the paint boxing out well and getting rebounds. Score really well at the glass and with a consistent floater. As the game continued White showed his three point shot which a scored a few times with. White bullied the older opposition while playing at a high level. An impressive showing for the freshman who will look to help Palo Verde return to a third consecutive state championship game this upcoming school year.     Naylor was a strong force in the post. Showing off good footwork and speed to get around his defender and the ability to finish off the glass with either hand. Rebounded exceptionally well over powering his opponents. Defensively Naylor prevented opposing forward from gaining position and forced the to play from outside the paint. Disciplined defender and shot blocker. Pass the ball very well making a dribble move in the post and kicking out to the open teammate. An impact player on both sides of the ball and highly disruptive in the post.
