Below we take a look at eight of the top Class 1A showings from the first seven days of action in a series that we plan to continue throughout the year, hopefully without too many repeats!

2028 PF Owen Smith (Riceville) -- 30 points (13-26 FG, 0-3 3P, 4-8 FT), 21 rebounds (11 offensive), 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block [at Postville]

The Wildcats' 6-4 sophomore opened the season in a massive way, grabbing an eye-popping 21 rebounds in their win over Postville. He was a menace on the offensive glass, finished well around the rim, and showed that he can protect the paint a bit as well. With his size, strength, physicality, and soft hands, he'll continue to be a force on the glass on a nightly basis for a Riceville team looking to surprise some teams in the Iowa Star.

2026 SG [player_tooltip player_id='1460951' first='Eli' last='Dee'] (Baxter) -- 39 points (15-25 FG, 0-4 3P, 9-11 FT), 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks [vs. Meskwaki Settlement]

Dee is one of the most explosive scorers in the state, and he showed why throughout the Bolts' win over Meskwaki Settlement. Despite not knocking down a 3, a usual strong point of his arsenal, he still dropped 39 points on 60% shooting, showing his ability to get to the bucket off the dribble routinely. As if his 39 points wasn't enough, he put up a massive double-double, showing off his athleticism with his 15 rebounds and 2 blocks.

2026 SF [player_tooltip player_id='1765521' first='Cal' last='Heydon'] (Coon Rapids-Bayard) -- 34 points (11-20 FG, 3-4 3P, 9-13 FT), 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block [vs. Audubon]

One of the top players in Class 1A, Heydon showed exactly why he's so highly regarded with his stat-sheet stuffing performance against Audubon. He showed that he can score from anywhere on the floor, knocking down three 3-pointers, using his 6-4/6-5 frame to shoot over defenders.

2026 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2517050' first='Carson' last='Bargfrede'] (St. Edmond) -- 27 points (10-16 FG, 6-10 3P, 1-3 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal [at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows]

The Gaels looked fantastic in their season-opening win over CGD on Friday night, and we could've taken [player_tooltip player_id='1907683' first='Hunter' last='Horn'] here as well. But Bargfrede, the lanky 6-4 wing, was exceptional from the jump, burying six 3-pointers and looking extremely confident in his stroke. If his jumper is truly improved, St. Edmond is going to be really, really tough to slow down.

2027 SG Nolan Woods (North Linn) -- 26 points (9-13 FG, 6-10 3P, 2-2 FT), 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal [at Central City]

It's an almost entirely new look team for North Linn this year, with Woods as the lone returnee who saw much action last season. He got his season off to a strong start last week, most notably with this fantastic outing against Central City. He was efficient, shot it really well from the 3-point line, and contributed on the glass on both ends of the floor.

2027 PG Cole Jeppesen (Riverside) -- 16 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 3P, 5-9 FT), 2 rebounds, 13 assists, 1 steal, 0 turnovers [vs. Missouri Valley]

The thing that really stands out about this Jeppesen performance is the ZERO turnovers. No turnovers with 13 assists is some elite ball security and playmaking. He was in complete control against Missouri Valley, scoring and facilitating on a possession-by-possession basis.

2027 PG Blake Reynolds (Earlham) -- 18 points (6-13 FG, 2-6 3P, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal [vs. Pleasantville]

Under new coach Austin Ash Reynolds nearly put up a triple-double during opening week, finishing just one helper shy. A floor general with good command of the offense, he can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, knock down shots from 3, and he has great vision.

2026 PF [player_tooltip player_id='2425945' first='Cahne' last='Weber'] (Don Bosco) -- 22 points (10-14 FG, 0-2 3P, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 9 blocks [vs. Clarksville]

Weber was dominant in the painted area against Clarksville, nearly putting up a triple-double with NINE blocks. An athletic 6-3 big man, he has good timing as a shot blocker and was a force against the Indians as a scorer, rebounder, and rim protector.
