About Coon: Coon exploded onto the national scene with his play during his 16U summer with D1 Minnesota, grabbing a number of Power 5 offers before ultimately deciding to head to Omaha to play at Creighton. He's an explosive athlete and a long, rangy wing who can impact the game in a major way on both ends of the floor with his combination of length, athleticism, and intelligence. He's a viable three-level scoring threat who is at his best when he's playing downhill and using his physical attributes to dominate the game and finish at the rim with authority. He's a highly intelligent player who understands spacing, rotates well on the defensive end, and as he continues to become a more consistent threat from the perimeter, the sky is the limit on his long-term potential.

Why he can win Mr. Basketball: Storm Lake will enter the year as one of the top teams in Class 3A, a year after reaching the state tournament for the first time since 1994. Coon's career numbers are among the best in the 2026 class, a four-year varsity starter who could reach the 2,000 career point milestone with a big senior year, and if he's able to help Storm Lake reach Championship Friday, he'll have to be given some serious consideration by Friday morning's voters.
