Demari had himself quite the game against Rock Canyon, and he was locked in and deliberate with every touch. He made sure that his team competed, and he brought the edge from the opening tip. He played strong from the mid-post, knocked down tough pull-ups, and showed confidence attacking mismatches. He competed hard defensively and stayed aggressive when Eaglecrest needed buckets. You could tell he wanted it, and that quiet intensity was real. When he has it going like that and how Eaglecrest is set up this season, he's going to need to be more assertive and forceful with his shots, but that should let him know that he could push his team, and they will follow suit. Liked how he performed on the weekend.

Boaz showed the full arsenal this weekend, and what really stood out for me is how skilled he truly is. For a player with his size and stature, you do not expect him to move, handle the ball, and shoot the way that he was able to. The jumper was pure as he knocked down the most 3-pointers at the event. His decision-making also caught my eye. He ran point, initiated offense, and looked like a true playmaking forward. If this version of Boaz keeps showing up, Horizon's duo becomes flat-out dangerous. I expect some huge games from him, but this is a group that is going to surprise! Boaz has it.

In one of the more anticipated matchups of the weekend against Eaglecrest, it was Collier who looked like the best player on the floor, period. The burst, the pace, the way he sets up teammates and then turns it on as a scorer is elite at times. He was letting it fly from deep, cooking off the dribble, and controlling tempo. East was down a major piece, and it did not matter. Watching him and Noah feed off each other was special. He's poised for a breakout year, and I bet he has some monster scoring performances this season.

Noah is highly regarded as one of the state's top true PG's but what is not discussed and needs to be questioned is where he ranks as the state's best on-ball defender. If a guard is wondering what it looks like to affect the game on the defensive end, watch what he did against Eaglecrest. He set the tone on that end of the floor, made life miserable for opposing guards, and took what we expect to be one of the top scorers in a conference completely out of the game. Then he flipped the switch offensively, knocking down mid-range shots and scoring through contact. The steals, energy, and two-way impact stood out, and he backed that up with a 25-point performance against Rocky Mountain later in the day. He played like a leader and looked locked in from the jump, and it's great to see a player who cares about defense like he does.

Very few things are constant in high school basketball, but Dyson scoring in double-figures seems to be a sure thing. I think we will see that throughout his entire career. This weekend, he looked even better as he was flat-out in attack mode. He got downhill every trip, put pressure on defenders, and showed balance between finishing inside and knocking down mid-range shots. When he gets in ISO situations, it's trouble, and the thing is, everybody knows that it's coming, but there's nothing you can do about it. He plays with poise and pace, and when his jumper's falling like that, you can feel the game bending around him. He exploded for 25 points against Horizon, and that was the best that we've seen him.
