2024 IYBL Back to School League- Scorers

Scoring the ball is a major focal point in the game of basketball. These young men have the ability of putting the ball in the basket at any moments notice.    A very aggressive scorer who stayed in constant "attack mode" whenever he stepped on the floor. De'Vion was really great at creating his own shot off the dribble for consistent makes on the perimeter. He also knocked down multiple three point shots and drove the ball to the basket with ease. On numerous occasions, De'Vion was able to drive by his defender and score at the basket despite being fouled. He completed multiple three point plays by converting on his free throws. This young guy can score with the best of them! Every time the ball found his hands.. he seemed to either score or draw some kind of contact from the opposition. Defensively, this young man really excelled at forcing turnovers and defending his opponent physically. This style was very effective against opposing guards. I counted at least three on ball steals he forced with quick hands and footwork. De'Vion is a really good scorer now at a young age. Just imagine how elite he'll be as he continues to enhance his basketball skills.     This young man can really shoot the lights out!! Over the weekend, I watched Asher be a sniper from behind the three point line. (4) He's the type of player who doesn't need much space to get his shot off, while being effective. This guy's an excellent team player who has the total knowledge of his role as the team shooter. He was really good at using screens and staying in constant movement to free himself up on offense. Asher can also attack the basket when the opportunity presents itself. There were a number of times I saw him drive by his defender and get to the basket. He's a decent passer who can find teammates when they're open enough to make plays. On defense, he gives maximum effort and sneakily looks to force turnovers with timely steals. I even saw Asher grab a few rebounds! He's not a high level rebounding kind of player but he's willing to do what's necessary for the team. Every coach wants and needs a shooter! Asher definitely has the qualifications needed to fill this role for any team.     Jackson showed off his ability to shoot over the weekend. This young guy can knock down shots from both long and mid-range at a high level. He's a really good scorer who always looked to free himself for open shots at the basket. An excellent rebounder who had no issue going through the physical grind of fighting for boards in the paint. Showed the energy to run the floor and score in transition when the situation called for it. I watched him make a number of threes with defenders not giving him much air space to get his shot off. If he has to get to the basket.. he has the ability to get around his opponent with good dribbling skills. Jackson completed a number of three point plays by attacking the basket and being fouled by the opposition. Excellent free throw shooter who converted on most of his attempts. On defense, Jackson was able to defend his opponent very well. He kept a body on him and made it really tough for him to score. Jackson has the size and shooting ability to succeed at the middle or High school level in the near future.     When I watched Trey play.. I saw a dynamic scorer who scored a lot of points in transition. He may have finished with 16 points in the game over the weekend. At least half of those were in transition. He loved running the floor and making things happen for himself and his teammates. A lot of his transition points came off turnovers forced by either him or other players on his squad. In isolated situations Trey was able to create space off the dribble and nail multiple perimeter shots over his defender. He can also get into the lane and make plays at the rim by either scoring or dishing out "sick dimes." Most of these passes would find open teammates near the basket and on the perimeter. He's a tough minded guard who had no issue doing all the hustle plays. Grabbing rebounds, diving for loose balls and taking charges is no problem for this guy. Trey is the ultimate team player who aggressively looks for his shot but has the skills to be a facilitator also. On defense, he's very pesky towards the opposition. Trey constantly stayed attached to his opponent and often used his quick hands to generate turnovers. I believe he'll continue to progress at the shooting guard position. Keep grinding Trey!!     Bryce played the shooting guard/small forward position very well over the weekend!! He was one of the focal points of the Go Time offense. Scoring most of their points and doing whatever he needed to help get his team a win. Great shooter who knocked down a majority of his three point attempts. He showed a good amount of athleticism while running the floor and finishing at the basket. Bryce has scoring capabilities to go along with being a willing passer. This young guy is a really good all around player who does everything on the court. He's a good rebounder who can go in the paint and fight taller players for boards in the paint. Bryce can also beat defenders off the dribble and attack the basket. He did this multiple times and scored through contact, which lead to three point play opportunities. He has an excellent shooting touch from the perimeter. I watched him knock down multiple jump-shots and convert on his free throws. A great passer who always found open teammates in the paint and behind the arc. Bryce displayed all the characteristics of a solid defensive player who applied constant on ball pressure while anticipating passes in the passing lanes. I expect him to have a very successful basketball season this fall.     Taye 's an excellent shooter from mid-range who has the ability to take smaller defenders in the post and score. He did this numerous times in the game I watched over the weekend. Taye was literally unstoppable in the paint. He scored on most of his shot attempts, sometimes through contact from defenders. A very strong player who can score with both power and finesse. Excellent offensive rebounder who grabbed close to double digits boards on both sides of the floor. A really good passer who dished off a number of assists that impacted the offense. Many of the baskets he scored were on offensive put-backs. He's an athletic player who can run the floor and score on fast breaks when the opportunity arises. Taye also has the capability of making free throws and knocking down shots on the perimeter. This young man has a good basketball makeup. He knows where he has to be on offense and what it takes to be effective at all times. Plays good man to man defense as well as team defense. Taye's an excellent young player who has nothing but time in regards to improving his all around skills. This young guy will be a problem for opposing coaches as he continues to mature.
