Middle School Camp- Indiana - The Best of the Rest!!

Players from all around the state, made their way to Fort Wayne, Indiana. They arrived with the hope of showcasing their skills at the highest level. The Prep Ho[program_tooltip program_id='2228160' first='OPS' last=''] Next- Middle School Camp provided the perfect outlet for these goals to be achieved.    He's the prototypical point guard who looks to get all his teammates involved with pin-point dimes that lead to easy baskets. Cezar showed excellent leadership skills by being a vocal motivator on the court amongst his fellow players. He's a great ball handler who used his dribbling skills to blow by defenders and get to the basket for easy lay-ins at the rim. This young man can really shoot the basketball with a variety of side and step back jump shots. He was very effective from the floor by knocking down most of the shots he took. It really didn't matter if he was shooting mid or long range shots.. they all seemed to fall in the games I witnessed on Sunday. On defense Cezar showed off his quick hands and timing by forcing numerous turnovers and mistakes by opposing guards. When I saw this kid play, I instantly thought of a floor general who'll have no problem continuing to grow as a player.     I really love the energy Isaac plays with. He plays the point guard position with toughness and passion. Every play this kid made.. he let the defense know about it!! Watching Isaac play the game of basketball fired me up to the point of wishing I could get out on the floor and hoop. Excellent dribbling skills to make things happen for himself or teammates by easily getting around and through the defense. As I said, this young guy is a great shooter form behind the arc, knocking down a total of six in both full court sessions. It was awesome watching this guy let the defender know " it was nothing they could do about it " after he swished a three through he bottom of the net. A really good passer who dished out a number of assists that produced positive outcomes for his team. He ran the floor by leading the fast break on numerous occasions which resulted in easy layups for himself or others. On defense, he was very pesky with his attachment to opposing guards. He made receiving the ball and making plays tough for the opposition. Isaac is the type of guard who's fiery and determined to have his team win at all cost. These traits will serve him well in his pursuit of being a top player at his position.     I loved watching the small guys play the game of basketball. They already step on the court with the disadvantage of being the shortest player. Do these types of players let this hinder their progress? Not at all!! I have to say " it was really awesome watching Davonte play." He was the smallest guy out there and still found ways to make plays for his team. In the two full court sessions on Sunday, I saw him knock down numerous threes and attack the paint with floaters over taller defenders. His ball handling skills allowed him to drive by the defense and make a couple of flashy assists. These passes resulted in his teammates scoring easy layups at the basket. Somehow this kid always seemed to find the ball in his hands when a play was needed for his squad. Constantly moving without the ball and running around screens helped him generate a lot of open shot attempts, which he knocked down. Defensively, he was able to play the passing lanes for steals due to the careless passing from opposing players. Devonte is only a sixth grader so he has all the time in the world to work on his game and improve. I believe he will up his skills to the next level as he continues to grow.     This is my second write up of Weston. He's still a complete combo guard who can play both positions effectively. He's an above average ball handler who's capable using his ability to drive the ball around defenders and make plays for his teammates as well as himself. In transition he lead fast breaks and made good decisions which lead to easy scores. Weston is a really good mid-range shooter who's capable of getting hot and extending his range beyond the three point line. If he has to get to the basket to make a play for his team.. he has no problem doing so. He was very aggressive on the defensive end of the court by shooting passing lanes and using his quick hands to force turnovers. I saw Weston generate a number of steals during both sessions. He was very good on defense, staying with his opponent and chasing him around screens, while not giving up any free looks at the basket. This young man is a very calm and composed player on the court. All traits of a steady guard who succeeds at the position.     Josh has excellent passing skills that were on full display on Sunday. There were a number of flashy passes that often found the hands of his teammates for open looks at the basket. He's a high energy player who showed the ability to create for himself and others. A really good shooter from the floor who made it a habit of knocking down mid range shots and three pointers when the opportunity presented itself. This young man has great offensive skills that allowed him to stay in constant attack mode when he was on the floor. He had no issues running the team as a lead guard. On defense he was completely aware of how defense should be played. Josh showed good footwork by staying with his opposition at all times and using his hands to be a pest whenever he touched the ball. The future is looking very bright for this young man.     Drew is an excellent shooter who has the capability of making long or mid-range shots. He showed the ability to create his own shots with dribble hesitations leading into his jump shots. In isolated situations, he was able to drive the ball to the basket for easy scores. This guy is very skilled on the offensive side of the ball. He can score in a variety of ways, and he proved it on Sunday with his shooting and slashing ability. Drew is a good defender who can stay with opposing players on that end of the floor. He had no issues fighting through screens and disrupting the offensive players' shots. Defensively, he didn't make it easy for opposing guards by constantly applying pressure. Drew also showed his toughness by going into the paint and fighting for rebounds. This young man plays the game with no fear!! He'll continue to enhance his skills as he moves from one level to the next.     Foster showed the ability to play both inside and outside the painted area. He has good post moves along with the ability of making jump shots outside of 15 feet. I watched him step out beyond the arc and knock down a couple of three pointers. He can bring the ball up court under control and grab offensive rebounds for easy put backs. On offense he always found ways of getting to his spots for open looks. Foster was excellent at setting screens that allowed teammates to get open looks at the basket. Good interior post defender who had no issues boxing out and grabbing defensive rebounds. Didn't go for pump fakes and stayed planted on the ground against opposing post players. Foster is very knowledgeable in regards to defending the painted area. This young man played with a calm demeanor and maintained the same emotions whether his team was winning or losing. He communicated and displayed positive energy with all his teammates. Exemplifies everything about what a team player should be.
