Looking at Length: Four Breakout Candidates

In sports, measurables are always among the first things that jump out at coaches and scouts. You can teach skills but size and length are often unteachable gifts that some are blessed with. We will cover four up-and-coming talents whose ceilings are as big as their wingspans.    <a href="https://x.com/LeviEkue">https://x.com/LeviEkue</a>   I first saw Levi at a Prep Hoops event last year, and the talent was raw but evident. Ekue now has another year of high school ball and some Varsity experience in limited minutes. Ekue has grown to around 6'8" with natural shot-blocking instincts. He runs the floor well with a high motor and fills the lane to generate an easy bucket. Ekue's presence alters shots around the rim; however, he does a great job closing on shots from the perimeter, using his length to challenge. Ekue's ability to display serious offensive growth should have multiple colleges making the trip to Springfield this Winter.      Oglesby presents an opportunity to make a college scout appear to be good at their job. Any scout can recruit the top kids from the top areas but when you find a difference-maker at a small school, that's when you prove your worth. Oglesby averaged near a double-double during his sophomore year and threw in almost three blocks per game. He is long, athletic, and has a great basketball IQ. He understands how to use his length to not overcommit on shot blocking and foul, or timing passes to intercept. Oglesby is a treasure that has yet to be explored. He has shown he can create his own shot off the dribble, or shoot the three ball consistently. Acin's length makes his slashing layups and jump shots extremely tough to challenge. He is a solid defender who is patient and tough to get a look look at the rim on. Northstar has a young backcourt with a ton of potential, Acin will give them an opportunity at a two-man game that he can exploit and take pressure off his young guards. He has accepted his role by playing solid defense, creating a big target for his guards, and rebounding. With that said, Gore may be underutilized with his good footwork, and knowledge of how to use his strong body for positioning. He is strong in the post on defense. He does not give up much ground and can anticipate a shot to challenge it. Gore is a coachable big with the size and length to give any team at the next level quality minutes.
